T-mobile

We've known that the HD2 is headed to T-Mobile for some time now and have recently learned the pricing information.   But the "when" has been a bit of a mystery.

The BoyGeniusReport has stumbled upon an out of focus events list that might bring the release date into focus.  The second entry on the sheet indicates a "Dark Handset" will launch on March 24, 2010.

"Dark Handset" is reportedly double-knot spy code for the HD2. All of this goes along with the rumors we heard last month about the release date.

Now if only the other carriers could come up with thier own code words for the HD2 and leak release dates!

As we await the official launch of the HTC HD2 on T-Mobile, we've all been wondering just what the price of the biggest, baddest Windows Phone available today would be. Wonder no more, my friends, as this leaked spreadsheet shows it'll go for $199.99 with the usual two-year contract and rebates, and $449.99 if you want to forgo such formalities.

Still unknown is exactly when it's going to be available, but it has to be anytime now. Stay tuned. [via TMoNews]

We've known for some time now that the HD2 is headed to T-Mobile. Today at the 2010 Mobile World Congress, T-Mobile announced the creation of a comprehensive mobile entertainment experience for the HTC Windows Phone. The Entertainment Package will be pre-loaded on the T-Mobile HD2 that will include:

  • Barnes & Noble eReader
  • Blockbuster on Demand (Blockbuster’s first-ever video download application on a smartphone)
  • MobiTV
  • Paramount Pictures "Transformers" and "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen"
  • Gogo Inflight Internet Services (six month trial for inflight wifi services on over 2,500 daily U.S. flights)

The Paramount Pictures movies are reportedly loaded on a pre-installed 16gb microSD card. The Entertainment package is designed to highlight the multimedia features of the HD2.

“T-Mobile is committed to offering innovative solutions to connect, inspire and entertain our customers through the power of mobile technology,” said George Harrison, vice president, marketing product innovation, T-Mobile USA. “By combining leading innovation in the world of entertainment with the large screen and processing power of the HTC HD2, we’ve created a unique and powerful mobile entertainment experience.”

The T-Mobile HD2 is expected in stores this Spring.

Gee, we thought we knew the HD2, given all the stories we've written and the whole Smartphone Round Robin thing. Guess we'll have to see what T-Mobile has in store. Anybody know of any Windows Mobile news coming up next week that might have something to do with this?

Looks like that T-Mobile HD2 (US version, slated for March 24th) just keeps getting better and better.

Not only does it come with a memory boost (or rather, has memory allocated differently) which seems to shape it up for a Seven upgrade in October (that's what we're hearing too), but it looks to also feature Swype.

To refresh, Swype is that new soft-keyboard that first appeared on the Verizon Omnia II. It was then quickly ripped and ported to other devices (to the chagrin of the developers), due to its overwhelming popularity. The company has also recently secured a nice source of funding, meaning we can expect more form them in the future.

Fast forward to today and we find the latest T-Mo HD2 ROM dump features a unique file:

PACKAGE_LEO_1_5_IME_Swype

And to the right you'll see a screenshot of that very file in action. We're also told that this new build is "...slightly more accurate and looks much more polished than the original". What can we say other than we approve of this addition greatly? Nice move HTC and T-Mobile!

[Thanks, Tek818, for the info and screenshot!]

We've been throwing around a March launch date for the T-Mobile HD2 for a while now. And if this slide, purportedly from an internal T-Mobile presentation, is correct, it seems we're on the money. It shows the HD2 being released on March 24, along with a slew of other current and future devices. Not much to say other than that, until we see it confirmed by other sources. HTC and T-Mobile have announced a "Year of Rewards" program that will run from January 20th to March 23, 2010. While the program's eligibility window falls way short of being an actual year, the rewards and discounts being offered aren't too shabby.

When you buy and activate an T-Mobile Shadow, Touch Pro 2 or Dash 3G you can receive up to $500 worth or discounts and rewards. New and existing customers are eligible. Once you upgrade or activate a new line customers simply go to www.yearofrewards.com and register. Then for the next twelve months (that's where the "year" comes into play) you will receive notification on how to claim your reward.

Rewards range from a $25 dining certificate from Restaurant.com to discounts on accessories at HTC.com. You can find all the details and fine print over at T-Mobile.com

Behold, the HD2 that we'll see on T-Mobile. HTC's product page for the device is now live, and we learn that it's getting a memory boost over its European brother. ROM capacity will be 1GB (up from 512MB); and RAM is up from 448MB to 576MB.

An easy answer for the change could be that's what T-Mobile ordered. But that's no fun, is it? A better guess is that in testing Windows Mobile 7 on it -- remember that we're all assuming it's getting WM7 -- a need for more memory was discovered. Either way, it's not a huge bump up, but we're not the types to turn down free RAM. (Thanks to everyone who sent this in!)

Sure, the Palm Pre and its multitasking mayhem may get prime placement in Fox's "24," but who does Kiefer Sutherland and the rest of the production team call when it's time to blow something up? That's right. Windows Mobile. User JohnCody at XDA Developers spotted the venerable T-Mobile Dash as the trigger for a bomb underneath a manhole cover. OK, it's had a few modifications. But when you want to assassinate a fictional head of state, you don't want to take any chances with a new OS, do you?

The Windows Mobile 6.5 update for the T-Mobile Touch Pro 2, which leaked out a while ago, is now available through official channels, if you're into that sort of thing. (Looks like that rumored Jan. 20 date got blown, eh?) You're going to need your IMEI number (look under the battery), and then head here to get it. [via TmoNews]

Headline pretty much says it all here. TMoNews has it on good authority that updates to Windows Mobile 6.5 for the Touch Pro 2 and Dash 3G (aka the HTC Snap) will be coming on Jan. 20 (after that rumored Jan. 6 date came and went). Here's exactly what they heard:

Touch Pro2 and Dash 3GOn January 20, the Windows Mobile 6.5 software upgrade will be available for customers with the T-Mobile Touch Pro2 and the Dash 3G. Customers can obtain the update on T-Mobile.com at www.t-mobile.com/wmupgrade.

Considering T-Mobile was the first carrier to launch the Touch Pro 2, it's an update we're very happy to finally see. Now, where's that HD2?

Geeez, when it rains it sure does pour.

While Verizon official released their Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade for the Touch Pro 2 and Ozone today, looks like some fancy cats have found the shipping ROM for the T-Mobile Touch Pro 2 update.

Changes include:

  • Windows Mobile 6.5

  • Fix:TouchFLO SMS shows that there is one new message but there is not.
  • Fix:HTTP links and phone numbers embedded in SMS messages are not actionable in the TouchFLO screen.
  • Fix:The weather displayed in calendar events will show as New York as default and user must change the default location in the World Clock application in order to change
  • Addition of Visual Voicemail Application

Well, we've known for a few weeks already, but nothing like an official announcement (via Twitter) that T-Mobile U.S.is indeed getting the HD2:

T-Mobile will be the exclusive U.S. carrier of the HTC HD2 –slated for launch this spring! Sign up for e-mail updates

They even give a link for sign-ups for more information (found here) and we imagine a pre-order.

"Exclusive" , eh?  Guess that may put a kabosh for the rest of us not on T-Mobile.

Read the official press release here for more details.

So you're sitting back, enjoying your the new Windows phone you received over the holidays. Downloading apps, emails, and sending text messages to your hearts content on that "unlimited" data plan? Did you know that there may be a restriction on your "unlimited" plan? Restrictions, if violated, could result in your service being terminated?

We checked the fine print with the four major carriers in the U.S. market and found some interesting language as it relates to unlimited packages. Language that many may not be aware of and we felt it important to pass it on. A public service announcement of sorts. Ease on past the break to see what limits are in place.

We brought you the first news of the HTC HD2 headed for T-Mobile. We brought you the first look at the new Sense 2.5 documents tab. Now here's a look at the ROM actually on an HD2, courtesy of hdblog.it. As you can see, multitouch is enabled, at least in the documents tab. Peep the video after the break.

We're calling it folks: we now believe T-Mobile is the U.S. destination for the famous HTC HD2 (watch our hands-on here).  Sorry to the other carriers, thanks for playing. We're also hearing a tentative release window of March.

How do we know?  One of our trusty ninjas hooked us up with the still-in-testing ROM files for said device.

Having dumped the .nbh file ourselves, we can verify that indeed this sucker is a T-Mobile HD2 ROM (see below screen shot).  And no, we will not share this, so don't bother askin'.

Here are some stats:

  • Leo ROM 2.01 (big jump from v1.61 leak)
  • WM6.5 build 21869
  • Opera 9.7.0.35627
  • OzIM_US_1.0.5.1.139
  • Teeter 2.0 (ooh, a new version)
  • TMOUS_Manila_Core 2.5.1921401

Of course that's just a drop in the bucket from the External Packages folder, but you get the drift.

So T-Mobilers, a huge congrats.  And to AT&T, Verizon and Sprint, as far as we know, curses to you.

Take this with a big grain of salt, but TMo news has received word that T-Mobile's Touch Pro 2 (see review) and Dash 3G are to get their WM6.5 updates on Jan. 6, 2010.

While the exact date could be question, one doesn't have to look far to see that even Microsoft is calling for December/January WM6.5 updates for the Touch Pro 2 (more provoking is how Dash 3G is listed as "Date not yet available").

We'll keep following this rumor to see if it has any teeth, but hey ... you know it is coming sooner than later.

We promise we'll go all out on the HTC HD2 once it's more widely available in the United States. Really. We will. (And because you'll ask: Yes, it's coming to the U.S. early next year. No, we don't know exactly when or on which carrier.) In the meantime, here's what's going on:

  • Our pal Matt Miller from Nokia Experts has the HD2 in hand and is giving it a thorough run-through in his ZDNet blog.
  • The HD2 is now available on T-Mobile in the UK. [via Tracy and Matt]
  • The HD2 has 802.11n WiFi available, though it's turned off by default. Here's how to turn it on. [XDA via MoDaCo and Engadget]
  • HTC acknowledges there's a problem causing the HD2's camera to occasionally go pink. A software fix is on the way. [via wmpoweruser]
  • HD2's now on sale with O2 in the UK. [via Coolsmartphone]

Here's a price you can't refuse if you are looking to jump ship to T-Mobile: free

WMDeals is offering either the Touch Pro 2 or Dash 3G for free by starting a new line of service (sorry, upgrades don't seem to apply directly).

Going even further, you can trade in your old smartphone (including iPhone, Android) and get $100 back, which we suppose is good if you have an older device or are just plain too lazy to sell it on eBay. That's an official HTC/T-Mobile deal that lasts through January.

We have to admit, as far as price wars goes, this is a heck of a deal and if we were looking to switch carriers, this would be tempting.

Head to WMDeals for all the information on how to take advantage.

Update 2: As of 1:25 a.m., T-Mobile says everything's back up and running.

Original:

If you're on T-Mobile, chances are you know this by now, but the company is reporting it's in the middle of what's sounding like a pretty big outage. From its Twitter feed:

All – We’re aware of the current service disruption. Our rapid response teams have been mobilized to restore service as quickly as possible. We will provide further updates as more information is available.

Stay tuned, folks.

Update: T-Mo says at 9 p.m. EST, only 5 percent of its customers were still down.
