According to CEO Glenn Britt, Time Warner Cable could well be in talks with Apple, Microsoft and Samsung regarding potential streaming video partnerships, similar to the pact it has with Roku. The broadcaster released a TWC TV app on Roku devices that enables subscribers to stream numerous cable channels. It would make sense for the company to be in talks with Microsoft, especially with the Xbox One announced and on the way.

TVCatchup (www.tvcatchup.com) has released an app for Windows Phone 8. We previously looked at the app a few days ago and AAWP stated that it would only be a matter of days until consumers would be able to download and enjoy streaming television on Windows Phone - sure enough, it's now available for download.

If you're not familiar with the UK service, TVCatchup is a free way to watch television shows when not sat in front of the big screen. Unfortunately, despite the naming, TVCatchup does not sport functionality to enable users to watch shows that have already been on air, but the available free streaming is a great feature for any device.

TVCatchup already has an app available for Windows 8, but there's also currently an app in development for Windows Phone 8. All About Windows Phone has taken a look at what we can expect.

Windows Phone App Review: NCIS Pocket Guide

The Windows Phone app NCIS Pocket Guide is a quick reference guide for the NCIS television series. The Pocket Guide covers character and episode details for both NCIS and NCIS Los Angeles.

The NCIS Pocket Guide has character bios, episode guides, a listing of Gibb's Rules (way of life rules created by the main character) and a listing of any re-occurring characters that appear on the series. Simply laid out, NCIS Pocket Guide is a decent app for your Windows Phone with a bit of room for improvement. It's not going to appeal to everyone but if you're a fan of the NCIS television shows, it's worth checking out.

It looks like Nokia got a new talent agent because it has once again seen one of its phones get a walk-on role on a TV show. This time around, it's the cyan Lumia 800 in the BBC series Cuckoo, starring Saturday Night Live alum, Andy Samberg. Not only was it featured on the show, but it also looks to have gotten it's very own close-up.

"What?! How do I use this alien technology?!"

The Nokia Lumia Windows Phones seem to be making the cameo rounds these days.  Earlier what appears to be a Lumia 800 showed up on the set of the upcoming movie "The Wolverine" and now a Nokia Lumia (we believe it's a 900 in costume) has been spotted in the U.S. television show, The Neighbors. What's great about the above capture is facial expressions and the ability to add an alien-related caption to bring it in line with the storyline from the show.

We've previously looked at Windows Phones being featured in a media, particularly the music video for Fun. - We Are Young, which we to this day still receive tips on. We're going to need OEMs and Microsoft to go out in a full scale attack with product placement when Windows Phone 8 launches.

The advertisements, not only for Windows 8 and Microsoft's Surface, but Windows Phone will be on the big screens, where couch potatoes will be able to enjoy the sight of new Lumias or HTC hardware. Who knows, Samsung might even ... actually, it was wishful thinking, I know.

Thanks, Steve, for sending in the tip!

The Nokia Lumia 800 has been featured in a recent BetVictor television advert, which we spotted on Comedy Central. BetVictor (Victor Chandler International) is a leading British bookmakers and has a strong television presence. At the 16 second mark in the advertisement, we can clearly see the Lumia 800 on the table, but unfortunately both the Windows Phone UI and Nokia branding are absent for brand-free purposes.

HBO Go, the service that let's HBO subscribers stream movies and TV shows to various devices, is one of the greatest blessings to the world of apps in recent times. And now it has finally come to Windows Phone...but only in Romania. You may ask yourself, "Why Romania?" Well, the answer may be that HBO Go depends heavily on regional cable providers and those carriers in Romania were the first to get agreements in place with television giant. At any rate, customers of Romanian providers HBO Go VIP/Club Romania, INES, NextGen Communications, or Romtelecom can now watch their favorite shows on their Windows Phone devices.

Say what? It was only Friday when we reported that Nokia had told The Inquirer that a BBC iPlayer app is on the way for Windows Phone, and should arrive within the next few weeks. Now we have Pocket-lint publishing an article stating otherwise with a response from the British corporation.

"BBC iPlayer is already on over 500 platforms and devices including Virgin Media, BT Vision, FreeSat, Freeview, Sony PlayStation, Nintendo Wii, and hundreds of mobile phones, tablets and Internet-connected TVs,” said the BBC spokesman.

We are always looking at new and existing platforms to bring BBC iPlayer to, but have no plans to launch a BBC iPlayer native app in Windows Phone Marketplace in the immediate future.”

We'd like to point out that we believe the above statement to be a template response, and shouldn't be taken as what's final on the status of such an app. It would be strange for Nokia to confirm that the BBC iPlayer is coming to Lumia Windows Phones when it isn't, especially since the manufacturer has been superb with public and developer relations thus far. But then again, anything can happen.

We've contacted the BBC and Nokia for more information. We'll update accordingly.

We last covered a Windows Phone version of the BBC iPlayer back in August last year, where we brought the unfortunate news that the corporation was waiting for the platform to support Flash before they'd attempt to bring the on-demand service to Windows Phone owners. Nokia has now informed The Inquirer that the BBC iPlayer will be coming to Lumia owners in the coming weeks.

Now, first question that springs to mind is how has the team at the BBC got round the no-Flash capability? Second, how long is the exclusivity going to be (if at all) with Lumia handsets? Nokia has been busy building relations with developers and companies to bring across apps to the platform and improve the selection of big brand names available. It would make sense for an iPlayer solution to be made available to all Windows Phone consumers, especially since Microsoft has also managed to get the service live on the Xbox.

That's the good news, and we'll look to update you all with more information on dates of availability, as well as any details on a potential Lumia exclusivity. The bad news in this article, and from the Nokia source, is that a Sky Go app is not looking likely for another few months. The service is a popular add-on for Sky customers and will prove to be an issue until a solution is available for Windows Phone with apps already in the iOS and Android app markets. Unfortunately, no details were revealed for 4OD, ITV Player and 5 on Demand.

Microsoft may be close to announcing an expansion to its XBox Live streaming, paid television content.  Bloomberg reports that they are planning to provide Comcast and Verizon TV, and have also been in talks with close to two dozen other content providers to add sports, music, TV and movies to their current XBox Live services in the US and Europe.  Anonymous sources say that the announcement could come as soon as next week.

Under the plan, current subscribers to Comcast and Verizon television would be able to receive their content through Xbox.  Other media from companies like HBO, Bravo and Syfy would be available to XBox Live members through streaming.  In addition, MS is in talks with manufacturers like Samsung to get a Windows Live gaming hub added as apps on some of their televisions.  Add to that the impending Bing integration with Kinect controls and you have one serious home entertainment hub.

UPDATE: Microsoft made it official today in a press release detailing the television partnerships that they will have in place starting this holiday season.  The move includes deals with content providers around the world, including Bravo, Comcast, HBO GO, Verizon FiOS and Syfy in the U.S.; BBC in the U.K., Telefónica in Spain; Rogers On Demand in Canada; Televisa in Mexico; ZDF in Germany; and MediaSet in Italy.

You can get the details and a complete list of content in the full press release.

But first, check out this rockin' video of what's in store:

TVShow or PrimeTV... that is the question

We've reviewed PrimeTV and given away copies of TVShow. But which is the best television information app for your Windows Phone?

Tough call. Both offer detailed information on your favorites television shows as well as image galleries and videos on the shows. Both support Trakt.tv and Twitter (TVShow also supports Facebook). Both have live tiles and toast notifications on you favorite shows. Both have easy to navigate user interfaces.  TVShow does support subtitles but is that an across the board feature everyone uses?

But which is the best? While you can search and add favorite television series to track by keyword, Prime TV also gives you recommendations from your Trakt.tv account and from those shows that are trending upwards on Trakt.tv.

I'd love to say there's a smoking gun that would put one of these apps ahead of the other but they are so close, it's truly a dead tie. Both apps have similar features that are at times only distinguishable by how your access them. For example, TVShow has a YouTube button that sends you to a video page. PrimeTV incorporates a YouTube page into the Television Series hub.

Fortunately, both have free trials so you can judge for yourself. The full versions of both run $.99. You can find the Marketplace links and a side by side video comparison after the break.  If you find one of these two apps better than the other, feel free to share in our comments section.

Earlier today we mentioned that Bitbop was available for Windows Phone 7 in Beta form.  Similar to Hulu, Bitbop brings streaming television to your Windows Phone.  Shows are commercial free and can be downloaded to your phone or streamed.

Our first impressions of Bitbop are good.  The app has a polished feel to it, there's a decent selection of shows and movies to choose from and the menu system is nice.  The option to download episodes and movies is nice for those times you know you'll be in a poor reception area or without access to Wifi.

Bitbop has a free 60 day trial and a full subscription is running $9.99 a month.  You can find your copy of the Beta here at the Marketplace.  Keep in mind that this is a beta version and glitches may still be present.
