HERE Transit (formerly Nokia Transit), which helps you get from point A to point B using public transportation, got a nice little update today. In addition to the usual bug fixes, it also adds some handy new features.

This latest version now lets you view a list of local stations on a map. It also works nicely with HERE Maps, letting you switch between it and HERE Transit in the Journey Planner section. Got some favorite locations in HERE Maps or HERE Drive? Now you can access them through Transit too. It's great to see Nokia tying their suite of HERE applications closer together like a pretty pink bow.

GasBuddy is a nice Windows Phone 8 app that lets you find gas stations and real-time gas prices from the comfort of your Windows Phone. You can search by keyword or by your current location. The app was recently updated to version three to bring a handful of tweaks and performance fixes as well as Windows Phone 8 support.

The update also brings lockscreen support and offers randomly changing wallpaper images. We'll reserve judgment on the quality of the wallpapers once we see more but the first seems a little on the dark side.

AirFrance, the flag carrier for France, has released an official app for Windows Phone. This may sound familiar as the company already has a mobile app available on the platform, which they released last year. Unfortunately this was a version of their mobile website, so what we're seeing with this new app is a fully featured Metro experience.

Flight Status is a popular travel app over on the iOS and Android systems from Touchmeme and we're getting word that a Windows Phone version is in the works. According to Touchmeme,

Yes, we are going to produce the app for windows Phone soon. Our team is working for that.

We don't have any more details beyond that.  Nothing on features, pricing or appearance for the Windows Phone version.  But, if you look at the iPhone version's features and layout, Flight Status doesn't look too shabby.

Should you be traveling to or through London's Heathrow Airport, there is now an official app for your Windows Phone to help you find your way around the airport and monitor arrival/departure times.

The Heathrow Airport Guide is rather impressive with the amount of information it provides not only with flights but just getting around the airport. Airport information covers maps, shops, restaurants, parking, baggage claims, internet access, and more.

Rage against the train

The European Union has launched its own app for air and rail passengers stranded in the EU due to cancelations or delays to check their legal rights about refunds and rebates.

The app, simply titled Your Rights, is nothing extraordinary but what is neat is just how wide its coverage reaches. The app’s contents is available in 22 languages, uses local storage for data so no internet is needed and it’s available on Windows Phone, iOS, Android and Blackberry. It’s one of the first times we’ve seen such a massive simultaneous release and it’s nice to see Windows Phone right up there.

From the app description:

“The Your Passenger Rights application provides users with clear and concise information on their travel rights within the European Union. Presented in a question/answer format, it allows users to easily identify the problem which they are experiencing and be provided with a clear explanation of their rights and the options available to them.”

Currently, the app only covers air and rail but it will extend to bus/coach and marine travel in 2013.

Sure, the EU as a concept and execution catches a lot of flak at times but it’s actually nice to see some pro-consumer legislation turn to technology for everyday use.

Pick up Your Rights here in the Windows Phone Marketplace. Via: Phys.org
