The official Twitter app for Windows Phone, which received a hearty update a few months ago, has just been bumped to version 2.1 and it’s quite significant too.

The big new feature is integrated Lens support with filters. That means you can snap a photo and quickly post it to your Twitter account (or accounts, as multiple ones are supported) and add some nifty filters like Vignette, Warm, Cool, 1963, 1972, Golden Hour, Antique, and the classic Black and White.

The team will be holding a live chat on Twitter today to discuss tips and tricks, as well as some stories around the campfire. If you take part and join in the party, you could win a Nokia Lumia 928.

Windows 8 ‘officially’ launched way back in late October of last year. However, developers and enthusiasts have been using it for much longer, so you’d think there would have been an official Twitter app at launch, right? Nope. Instead we didn’t hear that Twitter was working on an app until the ///BUILD developer conference in Redmond. Four months later, we now have Twitter for Windows 8.

The official Twitter app has been bumped to version 3.0.0.20499, which (as one can tell) isn't a massive jump on the previous release. We can only assume that this build includes some minor fixes and improvements to address any issues that have been reported since the major upgrade was pushed out late last month.

We've asked a number of Windows Phone Twitter apps to strip down and reveal their timeline views, but fear not as we'll pixel out any secret areas. Rene Ritchie over at iMore recently compared some Twitter apps as a response to Phil Nickinson's AndroidCentral round-up of Android bird apps, both looking at how timeline views are different (if at all).

Not ones to feel left out, we decided to get involved and tag along, so here's our look at 10 Twitter apps for Windows Phone.

Going, going, going, gone. The popular (and well established) Twitter client for Windows Phone is being pulled and support discontinued, according to a team blog post over on the developer's website. Development has been slow and updates pushed back, but light was at the end of the tunnel when Red Badger tasked an intern developer with the Windows Phone app to bring new features and functionality to the table.

It's a shame to see the app finally retire from service, but it's understandable with the lack of progress. So what's caused Red Badger to decide on disbanding Bridsong for Windows Phone?
