Tweet Translator 1.0 headed to Marketplace

Carmelo Milian, developer of the Windows Phone 7 application SoundEscape 7, is bringing an interesting Twitter app to the Marketplace. Tweet Translator promises to translate your tweets from or to a wide range of languages.

Other features of Tweet Translator include:

  • View your personal tweet time-line
  • Search people tweets
  • View public tweets
  • Hear the tweet with text to speech for various languages
  • Real-time translation for more than thirty languages

Languages covered in Tweet Translator range from Arabic to Haitian Creole to Vietnamese, as well as the customary French, Italian, Spanish, German and English. It will be interesting to see how well the text to speech feature of Tweet Translator will shake out.

According to the developer Tweet Translator has been submitted for certification and should be available at the Marketplace soon for $.99.

We got word today of a yet another Twitter app in the Marketplace (see Beezz, Seesmic, Twitt, etc.), this one called Birdsong, which has a nice ring to it.

The app fetches for a pricey $1.99 and there is a free trial, but is it worth it? Our initial impression is for a v1.0 app it's pretty rockin' and yeah, we actually bought it. The main thing we like about is its looks: it feels almost like a native Twitter app. It also caches nicely, has threaded conversation views, retweet (old and quote), landscape support, inline pic viewing, Twitpic uploading and more. The UI is real slick and there's "infinite scrolling" so no more "load more" screens.

We look forward to seeing what comes next from the developer, who is already working on v1.1. You can check the developer's site here for more info and grab the trial here in the Marketplace.

Twitt 2.0 video tour

We've had a few requests to take a look at Twitt 2.0 a newly updated Twitter application in the Marketplace. Reason? There are two: it costs $0.99 when most Twitter apps are free and there's no trial. So naturally people want us to trial it for them and we're more than glad to take a bullet for you folks (cough, Daily Show app, cough).

The short of it is: it has pros and it has cons and whether or not it's right for you will depend on what features you feel are important. Vague, eh? Just watch the video and you'll see what we mean.

Twitt can be bought through the Marketplace right here.

Panoramic, who just released the stellar BlackJack for WP7, is aiming to have their flagship app moTweets ready by February.

While Seesmic received a nice update, the official Twitter client still at 1.0 and Beezz doing alright, we're pretty excited about having ol' moTweets around again. Considered one of the top Windows Mobile Twitter apps (save Twikini, RIP), moTweets should be a pretty stellar app from this experienced company.

Fingers crossed.

Just a few hours ago we're reporting on those new features in Seesmic v1.3 and now it's live in the Marketplace.

Although we gave some flack to the Twitter Racoon for no push updates, we'll applaud their team for this: Seesmic v1.3 is hands down the fastest Twitter app now on Windows Phone 7. It is very zippy and we even had our own 'Neo' moment with an audible "whoa" when launching it. (Too geeky?)

Besides the very impressive speed updates and unmentioned bug fixes, not much else has changed, including no landscape support, no conversation view (gah!). It also still doesn't run under the lock screen, so you get that 'resume' thing happening (double gah!). Oh, but there is that new Tile art above.

But hey Seesmic, you have a solid base going right now for your WP7 Twitter app--let's get some landscape support, run-under-lockscreen and push notifications going and you'll own this race. Twitterers: grab the update now.

Seesmic was one of the top Twitter apps in the Marketplace for Windows Phone 7, until a little app called Beezz showed up. Still, many prefer Seesmic's UI and general behavior but the company has been pretty quiet on any updates as of late.

The current version is 1.2 and we imagine what their blog is referring to is a yet-unpublished v1.3. If that's the case, here are the folloiwng improvements we can expect:

  • Timelines are now cached for increased loading speed
  • Speed and scrolling improvements, everywhere in the app
  • Display of private and verified Twitter accounts
  • Added animations and transitions
  • Bug fixes

Speed is good. Still, while Seesmic does support multiple Twitter accounts, something currently Beezz is lacking, the missing ability of push notifications is still quite significant. C'mon Seesmic, it's been a few months already--we'll all pay the $0.99 for the push-privilege, it's no biggy.

While it has only been a few days, the popular Twitter client Beezz is gearing up for a v1.2 update that should make a lot of folks happy.

First off is the new Live Tile, with counters for messages, new Tweets and mentions--not too shabby, though it looks a little crowded. Still, we like innovation. The next features are some biggies that a lot of folks have been clamoring for:

  • favorites
  • lists
  • saved searches
  • conversation view

That just about fills out the most popular Twitter features and we're pretty excited about giving it a spin. No word on ETA this time, but hopefully it will have less hangups than the last update ;-) Stay tuned for more.

We've been waiting on it for two weeks but late tonight (morning for most of you), the Beezz update finally happened. [See our earlier hands-on video]

A cursory look of the app shows no major changes to the UI, but the big new feature is the ability to receive Direct Messages and Mentions as pushed "toast" notifications (those at the top of the screen) and Home (live tile) notifications, which gives you a counter of how many new Tweets have happened since your last check in. (Also, search now works as well).

Overall it seems to be working very well--it's quick to push the messages/alerts and we're quite pleased. Along with GoVoice (Google) and everything is coming along nicely on WP7 just one month out. Of course the app is still free and you can download it here (opens your Zune desktop).

Beezz updated validated, headed to Zune

We made mention of an update to Beezz some time ago.  The update would add a live tile, toast for direct messages, language support, and other fixes.  The update ran into some snags when first submitted for validation.

Based on the Beezz Tweets, the problems have been addressed, corrected and the update has been validated.  Next stop the Zune Marketplace.

Not sure how long it takes to go from validation to being pushed out by Zune but keep an eye on your Marketplace Tile for the update.  Based on the Tweet, we should see it later tonight.  If you haven't downloaded Beezz, you can find it here (opens your Zune desktop).

We mentioned an update was in the works when we first took a look at the Twitter app Beezz. We are now learning that the update is on schedule for release tomorrow.

Along with adding a Live Tile to Beezz, the update will also include new features such as:

  • Toast for direct message and mentions
  • An innovative way to access writing a tweet
  • Choose your language in the preferences panel
  • Enhanced Search
  • Bugs fixed
  • New organization of the lists in the pivot.

If you haven't checked out Beezz, you can find it at the Marketplace here and if you've already installed the app, look to your Marketplace tile for indications that the update is available.

Thanks Sebastien for the tip!

While the official Twitter and Seesmic apps get all the press, this little program has snuck by a lot of people. It's free, just like the others, but offers some unique features like counters and very smooth scrolling.

The app is quite fast with an intuitive layout, making it one of our favorite Twitter apps out there.

Next week, the developer is planning to release a new version featuring a Live Tile for your start screen, as teased below.

Grab Beezz from the Marketplace here.

Update: We think the Windows Phone team may be getting their releases mixed up as in a follow up tweet they now say "Verizon is a valued partner and we look forward to seeing Windows Phone 7 devices in their stores in 2011." Going further, they evidently deleted the earlier tweet you see snapped above ;-/

It appears that Verizon customers will be enjoying Windows Phone 7 this holiday season after all. A tweet from @windowsphone is giving a strong indication of such and not mincing words about it either; "devices will be rolling into Verizon stores this holiday season and more will arrive in early 2011."

It's a shame these tweets didn't offer more detail such as when exactly the Windows Phone will hit Verizon and which phone(s) will be first. We've seen signs that the HTC Trophy 7 is confirmed for Verizon but not expected until early 2011. Could the production time table have shortened for the Trophy?

Or will we see another Windows Phone 7 device appear on the radar for the holidays and the Trophy will be a part of the "more" devices in early 2011?

Bill Gates is using the Samsung Focus

No suprise here but Bill Gates has a Samsung Focus and is using it to Tweet , take photos.

When IdentityMine (see our interview here) mentioned that Bill Gates was using their Twitter app, we grew curious. When we saw a photo, we remebered EXIF data and walla...the data above. Guess ol' Bill still gets some perks, eh? Getting a Focus before the rest of us. Congrats Bill and hope you're enjoying it!

ps Love the 'Artist Info'. Nice Easter egg there.

Curious thing about the "official" Twitter client we saw a few weeks ago. According to CNet, that version does not support access to the Photo Hub ergo uploading photos was not possible. That was a huge dent in the social network app, especially since many of us like to take pics and well...Tweet them.

Arne Hess, of the::Unwired fame, has been jonesing for a decent Twitter app for his Windows Phone 7 Samsung device (and we don't blame him).

Tonight was his night as Seesmic (see demo) was finally released to the Windows Phone Marketplace (it's of course, free). He immediately Tweeted from said client and sure enough, Seesmic supports photo uploads from his WP7 device (as evidenced above). Very exciting.

What does this mean? Well, it may mean the developers of the Seesmic app had native-code access and worked closely with Microsoft.  Well, that's just our hunch.

Update: Arne just mentioned this as well: "Features not (yet?) supported in @ for Windows Phone 7: Notifications (new tweets, @, DMs), landscape, predictive text, in reply to"

Video: Official Twitter app for WP7

While not earth-shattering per se, especially since we've seen a video of the emulator version, Twitter was caught on video by CNet in a nice little walk through.

Not much to say other than it looks smooth, it looks good and we're glad Twitter is officially on board. Actually, it is kind of neat that you evidently don't need an account with Twitter to use the app, you can just browse around if you want. Good for you social-network-phobics out there!

Update: David K. over at MobilityDigest correctly notes this one big downer mentioned in the article (which we'll summarize soon) is: "The result, combined with the lack of copy or paste, is that the Twitter app for Windows Phone 7, while unique and pretty, won’t allow for important basics like being able to tweet a photo from one’s library or even send a link from the Web browser."

Ouch.

As an alternate to the official Twitter app and Seesmic, Twozaic seems to offer quite a radical departure in terms of UI for the popular social network.

In a new and reportedly "final" video for the software, we get to see exactly how it will play out on our future Windows Phone 7 devices.

The program differs mostly in the UI, specifically featuring a "cloud" view of your contacts in addition to the traditional "long scroll" view. It seems a bit busy to us, but we're all for different takes on software and we know some of you will prefer this--alternatives are always good.

The listed features of Twozaic are:

  • Twozaic supports different views of all your twitter timelines: cloud view, histogram & ordinary list view.
  • You can also post pictures with geo location using Plixi (Tweetphoto), Yfrog or Twitpic.
  • Twozaic supports multiple accounts with easy switching.
  • You can search users and tweets.
  • You can create your own lists, add members, and follow lists of other people.
  • Twozaic offers full support for managing your friends and followers as well as sending and managing direct messages.

Read more on it here: http://www.virtual-remote.com/twozaic; watch the full demo video after the jump!

Microsoft Demos Netflix, Twitter Apps

Are you starting to get the idea that third party applications are a major part of Microsoft’s strategy for Windows Phone 7?

Microsoft has released a video on their Channel9 site that gives brief demonstrations of Netflix and Twitter applications as well as offerings from Flixter, OpenTable, and Travelocity. Netflix we saw fairly early at the Mix Conference, an official Twitter app is new (though we have seen a Twitter client from Seesmic) and the other tools are new as well.

Head on over to Channel9 for the video (direct link). Individual videos after the break.

Although we've seen Seesmic's Twitter app for Windows Phone 7 demoed before (see here and here), this looks to be their finalized, polished up version complete with video tour.

Considering it's looking less and less likely that Windows Phone 7 will support Twitter directly (though see here for contra), Seesmic's app looks to be a winner.

Like all Seesmic Twitter apps (e.g. desktop, Android), we can expect this to be a free offering as well. Can't be that.

Best part in our opinion? The ability to customize the look/layout of the program, followed by the solid and evidently seamless integration with the OS.

Peeps are back up

Seriously, Twitter's back in action with Windows Phones.

Earlier this month Peeps went down due to an authentication protocol conflict and while we thought things were fixed last week (apparently for systems other than Windows Phones), it actually working now.

Now that order has been restored, we can sit back this weekend and tweet until our hearts are content.

Really... we can.

HTC Peeps are back up

HTC has tweeted that Peeps is back up and running. Actually, according to Twitter it's been up and running for a few days.

Earlier this week everything went dark due to a problem when Twitter changed their authentication protocol.  It's nice to see that the conflict wasn't too hard to resolve.  Now that everything is up and running again, we can sit back, enjoy the weekend and tweet about our favorite College football team. War Eagle!

update: Might have spoken too soon based on the first few comments.  It appears that some devices might be up and running while WinMo is still down.
