verizon

Of course all the Verizon peeps out there have sighed a relief at that May 26th release date, with a lot deciding to get it (and a few , like ZDNet's Mary Jo Foley opting to wait for something else).

Regardless, it's nice to see Microsoft also taking the wraps off of the "official" area of their Windows Phone site for the Verizon Trophy. While nothing reall new is gleaned from the stats (5 hrs battery life, GSM 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 bands, nice) we can't but be a little jelly about this phone as we think it's actually quite a solid little number.

Just a few more days people, just a few more...

Our long national nightmare of watching dozens of HTC Trophy leaks are finally at an end: Verizon and HTC have made the device officialy official: it's coming out on May 26th for $149.99 with a 2-year contract and a $50 mail-in rebate (boo!). Specs are, well, no surprise at all to Trophy-waiters, HTC fans, or Windows Phone followers:

  • 1 GHz Snapdragon® processor
  • WVGA 3.8-inch touchscreen
  • Surround sound through SRS WOW HD™
  • 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash
  • 720p HD video capture
  • 16 GB on-board storage
  • Wi-Fi connectivity: 802.11 b/g/n
  • Global ready - allowing customers to enjoy wireless voice and data service in more than 200 countries, with more than 125 with 3G speeds
  • HTC Hub-customization through downloadable applications that offer even more entertainment and productivity

Verizon and HTC are also looking to sweeten the pot (and perhaps make up for the silly mail-in rebate) by offering a free Xbox game (supposedly worth up to $60) if you buy before July 15th. Halo: Reach, Kinect Sports, and Lode Runner are all on the table.

Get'cher full press release after the break and let us know in the comments: are you going to pick one up?

More Verizon news. Relax, this isn't another wild Verizon Trophy rumour, well... not so much. Costco is apparently stocking the device with the above capture from the warehouse stock system. The device will plan to be sold at the price tag of $149.99 (contract), while Best Buy will sell it without contract for $599.

Today's the 19th everyone, one of the rumoured dates, just to further hype the wait. Still excited, or have you become extremely frustrated?

I'm sure some (if not most) of the people eagerly awaiting this device are wandering if it's an elaborate plot by Verizon to (for some strange reason I can't quite think of) laugh at their customers in the continued torment that seems to be present. On the other hand, things could just be seriously messed up, and when have carriers ever got something right?

Wireless Vet, an active member on our forums, has received word from a HTC representative that the release date they're looking at is in fact - May 26th.

HTC rep says May 26 release date.

Rep states the phone just finished its official testing yesterday.

Our advice? Don't get your hopes up too much, we've followed the plethora of rumours and this should be taken lightly. Let's not forget the rumoured 19th date too, so if tomorrow doesn't display any sign of the HTC Trophy, then perhaps we have another week to run through. We'll keep you posted should anymore news show up.

Head on over to our forums to join the discussion.

The Verizon Trophy release is rumored to be just around the corner. While at times the Verizon Windows Phone has felt more like a unicorn than reality, we've learned of another sighting.

A Central New Jersey Ebay Classified ad is listing the Verizon Trophy for $395 or best offer (cash only). The Trophy is advertised as having a clean ESN, ready to be activated on any Verizon line.

There is no mention as to where or how the seller (an unregistered user) acquired the phone but there are a few pictures of the Trophy that lends a little credence to the add. Still, as with other ads of this nature, caveat emptor (buyer beware) is a good philosophy to follow.

Nonetheless, hopefully this is a good sign that the Verizon Trophy will become reality soon.

Thanks goes out to Byron for the tip!

Yeah, still can't get one, but the powers at be at Verizon and Best Buy are determined as all hell to taunt you with the HTC Trophy.

We're starting to think that this is just one big psychological experiment, meant to induce mass hysteria...on like five tech blogs.

So obviously the 12th has come and gone and there's still a ton of signs that the Verizon Trophy is afoot. We know Best Buy's were getting them, employees trained...heck, you know the history and still a no-go. Still, once Microsoft/Verizon pulled those Xbox gamer pics & themes, we knew it didn't look too good.

But with May 24th looming, our bet is Verizon would like to have the phone out before that event (though, missing CTIA in March and MIX11 in April didn't stop them either). WPCentral forum member Aog, who has multiple accounts with Verizon, received a call back today from a Verizon rep--so right there your warning lights should go off--and they claim 19th is the new target date:

"VZW rep called back today. Said trophy was releasing May 19th with a voucher for a free xbox game that can be played on xbox and phone."

Yeah, we hate playing this game too, but we know you Verizon folk want anything to hang on to, even if they are unicorn dreams and fairy musings. Still, like the other release targets, this is very plausible as we know big Red has all their pins lined up here.

Oh and that free Xbox game for the 360/phone--Full House Poker or Ilomilo? We're leaning towards the former. And we're putting that under "plausible" since Verizon does have an Xbox theme/gamer pic tie-in. Anyways, join us in the forums and vent or conspiracy-theorize away.

I think the release is becoming so close that Verizon customers can almost smell the new HTC Trophy. With the device recently showing up on Craigslist of wonders, WP7 Verizon support forum being launched, being spotted at Best Buy and rumoured employee training kicking off (plus a release date) one would assume it's coming very shortly - the rumoured date for release of tomorrow (12th May) could hold true, here's hoping!

To add yet more fuel to the fire, we have now seen the Trophy on Best Buy again, but you can add it to cart as opposed to not being able to do so previously, not to mention a dedicated Theme being available over at Xbox.com for the Trophy accompanied by the Verizon logo and a nice looking illustrated advert. Heck, there's even a Gamer Picture Pack available at Xbox.com too.

On our forums there has been a long discussion surrounding the device coming to the carrier, and it's the best place to be if you're awaiting more information or concrete updates. Sorry guys, I'm sure you've almost bitten all your nails off, but this is such a well kept secret it's rather amusing, don't you think?

Update: Xbox.com just pulled the Verizon-Trophy Theme & Gamer Pack--guess there's still some shuffling going on. Thanks, Random of Amber, for the heads up

We're just days from Verizon finally getting their first Windows Phone, the HTC Trophy, and it looks like some early versions are showing up on Cragislist. One seller (unverified) reportedly wants a fair $160 for the phone, which sounds like one hell of a deal.

But we must caution that this is a CDMA phone, meaning it's ESN could be blocked if the phone is stolen or inappropriately authorized. So you may get the phone but you may find out that Verizon won't activate it. We suggest you just wait the extra few days and know what you're getting ;-)

Well, sorta.

We know that the HTC Trophy will eventually land on the Verizon Network with the latest target date being May 12th. Some consumers are seeing signs that this date might hold true in that "dummy" or display models of the Windows Phones are popping up at the local Best Buy stores.

Based on the photos that are circulating, there is still no pricing information set for the Trophy. The good thing is that the 12th isn't far away and we won't have to wait too long to see if it holds true.

Anyone else seeing the display models?

Although we've seen actual pics of the Verizon Trophy in use, including screen shots of the OS, these leaked but "official" press shots of the upcoming Verizon HTC Trophy just back up the idea that this baby is close to launch. What with the Best Buy mention, reorganizing of their forums, employee training and then it finally popping up online, you know it's just around the corner.

In fact we're still hearing May 12th as the date for either the launch or shipping, something PocketNow has evidently corroborated. Of course, like all things, it can slip a bit, but we've never seen this phone come so close before.  Few more days. folks, just a few more days.

As if there was any doubt left: the Verizon Trophy is near ready to launch, it's really happening.

First Best Buy, then the forums, then employee training, then a potential release date (May 12th) and now the phone has showed up on Verizon's interactive "online smartphone guide" in it's full glory.

Although they have yet to officially announce the device, this is pretty close to it and shows that this phone is finally on the cusp of release. So we can now say: yes, get excited, this looks real this time.

File this all under unconfirmed/you've heard this all before/we like to torture thee:

From the above Tweet, word has it Verizon employees are starting to receive training on Windows Phone 7--which makes sense as their next step with their forums being cleaned out and the Best Buy listing. So we wouldn't be surprised if we start hearing a bit more about such events over the next few days...

The other thing is we're hearing about a May 12th date. Once again, we've had many, many dates in the past and we really have nothing to show you that this is real this time, but if you believe the stars are aligning for a launch, Thursday May 12th may be your day. Or it might not.

You may now all remount your tin-foil hats. Thanks, @ThePhilFletcher and anonymous, for the info

We don't want to get your hopes up too much but it's starting to look like Verizon is gearing up to really, really (for reals) launch the HTC Trophy.

Earlier today we saw a hidden listing at Best Buy for the Trophy and now Verizon Wireless has removed the previous, generic "smartphone/pda" section on their help forum with a...wait for it... a cleaned up Windows Phone area.

As Morpheus said "I do not see coincidence, I see providence. I see purpose. I believe it our fate to be here. It is our destiny.". Or perhaps we're just being over geeky and dramatic. Nah....

Pocketnow is reporting that the long awaited Verizon HTC Trophy has showed up on Best Buy's website, though not available/in stock. Usually this would be an indication of a near-launch. When we looked though, we were unable to find the device on the site, meaning the URL may still be hidden (or we're consistently spelling 'Trophy' wrong).

The price, out of contract, is listed as $600, but that's probably just a placeholder figure and nothing official. In addition, the model number MWP6985 is also confirmed for Verizon's first Windows Phone, which is as mythical as the unicorn at this point.

So, does this mean Verizon folk will be able to pick up their phone shortly? With this device's track record, we're going with 'no'. Still, hope spring eternal that Verizon will someday launch this device and complete the Windows Phone presence in the U.S. Seriously Verizon, this looks just sad now.

Both of these rumors today are on the weak end and use a bit if induction to get to their conclusion, but we'll throw 'em out anyways.

First, Nanapho.jp is reporting that the Trophy device used during the MIX11 demo (the one that puts its browser up against the iPhone and Nexus S) is not just the Trophy but the HTC Mazaa. What makes that interesting is during the rest of the MIX11 talks, whenever the gyroscope function was demonstrated it was on this Trophy/Mazza device. Nanapho gets the info via a Microsoft rep who evidently informed them.

Of course this still leaves open who the Mazaa is for and whether or not it will have the gyroscope on launch (we were under the impression that these were just modified Trophies for Microsoft for testing purposes).

The other rumor comes via Pocketnow who strung together a few pieces of info that suggests that Verizon is game for the HTC 7 Pro aka Sprint Arrive. The process is a bit of a math/transitive relation solving. In essence, we know there is a device being used with the ID MWP6885 (see our earlier coverage of new devices). There is also an FCC device that was approved called PC93100 which is a 7 Pro (confidentiality has expired). What links them together is a user agent profile called PC93-1.0.xml which, dun dun dun, IDs the MWP6885.

So if MWP6885=PC93 and PC93=7Pro (PC93100) then MWP6885=7 Pro.

Sure, it's a bit of a stretch but technically the logic works. Of course can Verizon actually get this out by the time anyone cares? That remains to be seen.

Update: This may or may not be the Mazza but they are new engineering prototypes that Microsoft is using in house i.e. Asus devices are out. Furthermore, these have Snapdragon and Adreno GPU with gyro sensors. Thanks to our source for the info.

We can't be too hard on Verizon here, since they never officially announced the HTC Trophy. But c'mon, we're not dumb either and we know the device exists, have seen pics (more pics), knew it was in final testing stages and that that they were offering Microsoft employees discounts to get it.

That latter part is what this is about as evidently they keep pushing back that "offer" from December, then till April 1st, then April 7th and now...May 5th. That goal line keeps getting pushed back for a reason and we bet Verizon fans are not too happy at all.

We'll keep following till we hear more. Sorry folks.

Going back to November, it was known that Verizon would be offering the HTC Trophy world phone to Microsoft employees, part of the deal that MS would cover employee phones (so long as they were Windows Phones, ahem).

A few days ago, that date for the offer was extended to April 1st, a sign we thought that Trophy release was imminent. Now we get word that the date is extended, yet again, by one week to April 7th. What does this all mean? What we've known for a bit: Verizon is testing the Trophy, it's nearly complete and their "release dates" for the public (latest being the 15th) are clearly moving targets, not written in stone. Lets just hope this is the last of the delays as Verizon is really dragging this drama out for a phone that is far from the cream of the crop.

It was earlier thought that the Verizon HTC Trophy would hit the market on March 24th but that date has long since come and gone.  We've also seen rumors that the release date would be some time in June.

Now, through a leaked Verizon Spring road map, it looks like the Windows Phone 7 device will should hit stores on April 15.  It joins a handful of Android devices being released by Verizon during April and, as previously reported, will be featuring the NoDo update.

No details on pricing have surfaced but we're thinking $199 with contractual discounts might be in the ball park.  We'll have our fingers crossed (again) that the April 15th date holds true.

Not too shocking here that hopeful Verizon customers won't be getting the HTC Trophy this week. The rumored date was the 24th or rather, that was the goal. So that's the bad news.

The good news is it is very close to release. We can share this bit of info regarding big red's first Windows Phone:

  • Testing is going well
  • The device is being evaluated for standards certification right now
  • Still waiting to announce a launch date but "it will be very soon"

We can say with confidence that the above information is from Verizon internal and very recent. So while folk will have to wait just a little while longer, Verizon looks to be dotting the i's and crossing the t's for launch, meaning we're in the final lap.

Thanks, Eric M., for the tip!
