Windows Phone apps

If you're not familiar with what Good is all about, it's an enterprise messaging service. We've had an app available for Windows Phone since last year, but now we're looking at a large update, which bundles Windows Phone 8 support with a list of improvements and new features. Version 1.8 expands on the foundation already available on the store with more functionality for those who take security rather seriously.

Sometimes official apps slip under the radar, especially if it’s only an update. Photo sharing website The Fancy updated their app to support Windows Phone 8 a handful of weeks back. It’s a fairly awesome app if you’re one of the 3 million active members on Fancy. Let’s check it out.

If you’re the type of person who is constantly on the move, a jetsetter perhaps, you’ve probably used or heard of Uber sometime in the past few years. The service and its applications allow users to connect with private drivers in select cities around the world.

Simply select your location and when you want to be picked up and sleek vehicle will be there for you. Cars available range from Lincoln Town Cars to BMW 7 Series or a Mercedes-Benz S550 sedan. Bad news if you’re primarily a Windows Phone user and want to use the service since the app has been unpublished from the Store.

Get jotting with Metro Wordpad for Windows Phone

There are a number of note taking apps available for Windows Phone, including Microsoft's own OneNote. Another one (like you'd need any more choices) potentially worth mentioning is Metro Wordpad. The app is a well-rated and popular Windows Phone notepad that enables consumers to create folders, send notes to others and more. It's a neat little app that's worth checking out if you're not digging the likes of OneNote.

The popular and well-rated stock portfolio management app for Windows Phone has received a major update and is now on version 3. We've previously praised the work by the developer, who managed to create a beautiful experience for those who are interested in checking out the markets, or who have a heavy inventory full of stock. So what's new in this latest release?

GoComics is a popular website launched back in 2005 for both strips, panels and editorial cartoons. It features virtually all of the major comics and cartoonists you can think of. And there is now an official app for Windows Phone to satisfy your comics need on the run.

The popular unofficial Google Maps app for Windows Phone has been updated to version 2.1. gMaps has been available on the platform for some time and it's good to see more updates published by the developer. gMaps (both the free and pro version) were previously bumped to version 2.0, adding Windows Phone 8 support. So what's new in this latest release? Street View has been refreshed and a number of improvements have been implemented.

Look, we know the official Facebook app leaves a lot to be desired from most of you. But thankfully we’ve got a great community of developers willing to step up and fill a need. If you manage a Facebook page as either a hobby or a more serious role you’ll want to check out Page Manager.

There’s a good chance you’ve used Newegg sometime with the past ten years if you’ve built your own computer. Or at least checked the site out while doing some online shopping for computer hardware, electronics, or software. Because, once you know, you Newegg (or so they say). Anyways, the app for Windows Phone picked up a nice update two days back. Let’s check it out.

Blondinbella apps for both Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 have been released. Should you be a fan of the popular and well-known Swedish blogger, these apps are a must have. We've previously looked at Isabella Desirée Löwengrip Rydberg and her own Nokia Lumia 920, so it's good to see apps to further support both Microsoft platforms.

Under a month ago we told you guys about Pixl, a beautiful Flickr app for Windows Phone. We praised the good design of the application and it’s easily one of the better ways to interact with Flickr on Windows Phone. They added an update yesterday that adds some fun filters to the images you upload. Check it out.

Beer has had quit the resurgence for smaller breweries the past few years. Different apps and services have sprung up to connect fans of craft beers with each other. Untappd is arguably one of the more popular social networks for the beer aficionado. We first reported it coming to Windows Phone back at the end of January, and now a little teaser on Untappd's Instagram shows the app might be coming any day now.

OneNote is a killer note taking application built right into your every single Windows Phone device on planet Earth. But if you’re coming over from other platforms like iOS or Android you might have a ton of notes and data in similar applications. Evernote is arguably one of the biggest competitors to OneNote for note taking and archiving. And today it’s getting a fresh coat of paint for Windows Phone.

There are always providers looking to capitalise on a single party's choice on withdrawing a popular service. It's known across the Internet that the search giant is closing down Google Reader, the company's RSS service later this year. Competing services have taken this as a golden chance to expand business and attract those who will be surely looking for an alternative and migrate away from Google. Cue Feedly.

PayPal first jumped on the Windows Phone wagon back in September. It had a bit of a rough start, first disappearing from the Store for Windows Phone 8 users and showing up again a few days later. Followed by some updates without any changelogs. And today we get another update for the PayPal app. Let’s see if they include on this time.

For those in near some major US (and even UK) cities, you may take interest in seeing the official Uber app (www.uber.com) land today for Windows Phone, both 7.x and 8. In case you don’t know, Uber is a livery service that is gaining popularity for embracing mobile technology—specifically you pull your location on your phone, access your account and ping a driver to pick you up. It’s fast, convenient and a great use of your phone.

Previously, we have had some decent unofficial apps in the Store, like Uber Towncar. Now, the fancy taxi company has embraced Windows Phone with a version 1.0 of their app, which of course is free and ad-free. That’s the good news (and it’s always good news when we get official support). The bad news is the app is a tad rough, even for a version 1.0.

We've been in touch with the developer of Feed Me, the popular RSS reader that sports integration with NewsBlur. Unfortunately, we're told the service has altered API requirements, rendering Feed Me broken and unable to synchronise. While the app is still available on the Windows Phone store, users may experience issues when attempting to use it.

Liquid Daffodil has once again published its Add to Contacts app to the Windows Phone Store. You may recall our previous coverage, where we went into quite some detail as to exactly why the developer pulled the app and how those who continued to use the app ran into issues with the integration in Local Scout. It's an odd situation that started with Microsoft revising Bing suggestions for third-party apps.

The way Microsoft lists apps in Local Scout meant that with Add to Contacts being no longer listed on the store, it disappeared for users who had it installed. Not good. The app has now returned and the plan is to continue competing against Microsoft's unfair suggestions that favour prestigious apps, such as Nokia HERE services.
