Windows Phone Store

You may or may not know that if you buy a Nokia Lumia 928 from Verizon, you qualify for a $25 Windows Phone Store credit. That’s a big chunk of money actually for picking up some $0.99 apps and even a few EA games.

The question you may have is how do you get it?

As it turns out, Verizon, who is not shy about emailing or calling you, will pass along an email with the voucher link.

The "Windows Phone Store" is a pretty big concept. Instead of being one simple market available to all users equally and indifferently, it has countless facets intended for specific user groups and regions.

Depending on your OEM, carrier, geographic region, OS version, and size of RAM, the apps visible to you just won't be the same. When things get complicated in order to serve as many types of consumers as possible, the chance of stuff going wrong gets increased as well.

Like a lot of you, we’ve been yearning for Microsoft to come up with a gift card solution for Windows Phone. Sunny skies ahead. Looks like Microsoft is finally gearing up to drop the Points system on Xbox and replace it with gift cards and cash.

Marketplace Dashboard for Windows Phone 8 is an app designed to help developers keep track of the apps and games they have in the Windows Phone Store. The app gives you a view of your apps including crash count, submission status and download counts.

Marketplace Dashboard has main pages that will list your published works and a page for those apps/games still in the certification process. The paid, version of Marketplace Dashboard, which is currently on saleallows each app to be pinned to your Start Screen that will display app stats.

That's right, folks. We're firing up an article on user review etiquette. Why, you ask? We've had numerous developers complain that consumers simply don't pay attention to information provided on the Windows Phone Store. This is prior to downloading trials or purchasing apps and they then leave negative feedback, which is viewable by the general public. We've noted this ourselves when browsing the catalogue.

Our own Jay Bennett has had this issue with the official Windows Phone Central app, so we figured we'd talk about how you can help make the review system less skewed for others to rely on, as well as improving the overall store experience for everyone (including developers). If you're one to quickly jump the gun and add a one-star review on apps and games then this resource is for you.

In the case you’re experiencing a dreaded ‘c101a006’ error when trying to buy, trial or download an app, you should know you’re not alone.

We’ve had about a dozen tips so far and verified ourselves that the Windows Phone Store is tossing this error out for apps that are buy/try (free apps appear to be exempt).

Joe Belfiore is continuing to tease followers on Twitter that an app is set to be released for Windows Phone tomorrow. To kick off the coming week, consumers will be able to download a special app from the store, but it's not currently known what we'll be seeing. Much like Pandora (see the above photo), Microsoft's working hard to get more big name apps on the platform.

Windows Phone has slowly been picking up apps, whether brand new to the platform or older apps get big updates. It’s a nice sign that the platform is picking up steam, but apparently not fast enough for Microsoft. The Redmond company has a new cash incentive to get developers cranking out apps for both Windows Phone and Windows 8.

The popular Windows Phone RSS reader Feed Me has vanished from the Windows Phone Store. Nothing nefarious or sinister in the works, just likely removed for damage control.

It is our understanding from the developer that the last update caused a few unforeseen problems and it was likely pulled to avoid further issues. An updated version has been submitted to the Windows Phone Store for certification and should be published shortly.

If you are currently using Feed Me without issues, be careful to not delete the app for it may take a few days before it becomes available again.

Windows Phone customers on O2 Germany have had the option to pay for Windows Phone Store purchases with a credit card or through their PayPal account. But direct billing to their wireless account wasn't possible.

Until now.

O2 will now let customers bill their app and game purchases from the Windows Phone Store to their O2 wireless account. When purchasing an item from the Windows Phone Store, just choose the "Add or switch payment methods" option before confirming the purchase and you should see the option to bill your O2 account.

The Chinese side of the Windows Phone Store has had a bumpy time lately. For the last a few days, Chinese users have been experiencing problems when trying to purchase apps. Many found it impossible to download any paid app; you go through the payment process only to get an error message. The money gets accepted by the Windows Phone Store well enough, but the app license never comes. Some fairly persistent folks have tried repeatedly, paying $3 for Angry Bird Seasons in three shots. Yet they still failed to get the app at the end of the day.

We've received reports from readers that iHeartRadio has ceased to work correctly on Windows Phone 8. The popular radio app is a superb solution for those who enjoy tuning into an array of stations while on the go. It has in fact been delisted for Windows Phone 8 hardware, but is still available for those who are running Windows Phone 7.

The Windows Phone Store is dead. Long live the Windows Phone Store! It would seem the store is inaccessible to many, with app listings returning the error 805a01f7 when a user attempts to view more information or download an app / update. Many are also receiving a "We can't search right now, be sure Internet is available and SkyNet hasn't been activated."

Most of us have suffered this pain, especially back in the early days of Windows Phone 7: There's a new Xbox Live title for Windows Phone, however those Xbox Live games aren't available in YOUR Marketplace. The Americans get them every Wednesday, but no such luck for those in Microsoft's "less favored" countries. Or the same game is priced differently in different regions of the Marketplace, for some absurd reason yours is a tad more expensive than everyone else's.

The other day we mentioned how you use your Bing Reward points for a chance to win an HTC 8X Windows Phone. Did you know you can also use Bing Rewards to make purchases at the Windows Phone Store?

Redeeming 170 Bing Credits will get you $1.25 worth of Store Credit that can be used to buy apps and games.  Note, this is the same redemption offer we mentioned earlier this month but it appears the $5.00 Store Credit option is no longer available and it is only available for Windows Phone 8 because of the Wallet feature.

You'll need to sign up for the Bing Rewards Program and credits are earned each time you use Bing for your search needs. It's an easy way to pay for your Windows Phone Store purchases. Now if we could only get gift cards...

Thanks, Richard, for the tip!
