Test your math skills with the Windows Phone game Kaboom

Kaboom

If you think you have mad math skills and quick reactions, Kaboom is a Windows Phone game that might be of interest.

The premise of the game is that bad times have befallen on major cities worldwide. An evil mathematician has launched a reign of terror on these locations and it's your job to save the day.

You will need to solve basic math problems to prevent bombs froe destroying the city. The pace of the game picks up the longer you survive and while there's not much to Kaboom, it comes across as a fun Windows Phone game.

Game Layout

The main menu for Kaboom has two gaming levels to choose from and an assortment of options running across the bottom of the screen. The "Don't Hurt Me!" option is moderately easy while the "Bring It On!" option steps things up a bit.

Kaboom Menus

The options along the bottom of the screen include:

  • Game Store: Here is where you will find a series of power-ups you can purchase with coins you earn during game play.
  • Share Option: Here is where you can share the game with friends, family and acquaintances.
  • Settings: Kaboom's settings cover sound and music levels as well as turning on/off the vibration.
  • Help Button: This will pull up a set of instructions on how to play the game and what all the power-ups will do.
  • Star Button: This will pull up your high score and an option to share your score on Facebook.

You also have a button in the upper right corner of the main menu that will pull up the gaming credits and an option in the upper left to remove the ads through a $1.49 in-app purchase.

Game Play

The gaming screen for Kaboom has a picturesque scene of the city you are trying to save in the background, your answer choices lining the sides of the screen and your power-up options running across the bottom of the screen.

Bombs will begin to drop from the top of the screen and are followed by a basic math equation. You'll need to find the correct answer from the choices lining up the sides of the screen to detonate the bomb before it reaches the city.

Kaboom Game Play

The math problems include addition, subtraction, division and multiplication challenges. While the problems are exactly difficult, what makes Kaboom a challenging game is the pace. Kaboom starts off at a gingerly pace but quickly increases pace as you progress through game play.

If three bombs strike the city, the game is over.

At the conclusion of the game, you will be rewarded coins that can be used to unlock the power-ups, which include a freeze power-up that slows the bombs, a missile power-up that will destroy all the bombs on the screen and a shield that protects the city from the bombs for a brief period.

Overall Impression

Kaboom may not be a fast paced, action packed Windows Phone game but that doesn't mean it sucks wind. Kaboom is a nice Windows Phone game that will test your ability to solve basic math problems.

The game is a fun addition to your Kid's Corner to help challenge kids who are just learning the math basics as well as being an entertaining game when you are in the mood to work your brain.

Kaboom is a free, ad-supported game that is available for Windows Phone 8 and 7.x devices. You can remove the ads with a $1.49 in-app purchase.

You can download your copy of Kaboom here in the Windows Phone Store.

Got the concept from winobi. My friends were addicted to it.
Strangely, it is available for android, ios, as well as bada, but not windows phone..
This one looks much better.

The sums might be easier to read if they were written left to right, instead of downwards. I can imagine they'll be harder to read as the speed increasees.

I'm tired of this boring games that only test my brain,I want something violent,a game that is not about thinking, but shooting
