Three UK cuts Pay-As-You-Go pricing, making your credit last longer

Three Logo

We've had fairly standard pricing here in the UK when it comes to the Pay-As-You-Go market. Mobile operators have kept to an affordable model that provides customers with ample usage between topping-up. Three UK has today looked to change this for the better by slashing its PAYG pricing. If you're one who wishes to remain off-contract, these new prices may pique your interest.

Before we crack into the changes, it's worth noting that the Lumia 520 would be a perfect match with a PAYG SIM from Three. The most affordable Windows Phone with a cheap plan that has no strings attached. Here's what we're looking at for the new PAYG prices on Three UK:

  • 3p a minute
  • 2p a text
  • 1p a MB of internet

The data cost is significant as consumers can now enjoy the Internet capabilities of a smartphone with £1 for every 100MB, which isn't bad for a deal that's not part of a contracted plan. It's about time a mobile operator stepped forward and brought the PAYG market to the 21st centuary to match what consumers are using these days - smartphones. Thomas Malleschitz, marketing director at Three had the following to comment on the changes:

"The number of complex Pay As You Go tariffs, Add-ons and options available is mindboggling. Consumers are forced into choosing where they want best value – whether that’s calls, texts or internet. Our new rates strip things right back to basics with a simple, clear and transparent rate for calls, texts and internet use that offers clear value across the board. It’s important to us that our Pay As You Go customers can use our Ultrafast network to chat, text and enjoy the internet without making a trade-off on value. This is Pay as You Go in its purest form."

If you use a Windows Phone on the Three network and / or are looking for a sweet PAYG deal to suit, this may well be the perfect option for you.

A little off topic but, does anyone know when three will be launching 4G?

End of 2014 :)

Doesn't really need it, they have HSDPA2+ which is similar speed. Additionally, their network is 100% 3G (aside from a handful of places where the network falls back onto Orange/EE 2G), and mainly HSDPA. They are starting the 4G rollout this summer :)

Not wishing to be pedantic (not much, anyway), but isn't it "pique your interest", not "peek"?

derfman says:

Yes. Yes it is.

When will great 4G champion EE include unlimited data for such a low price??? 1GB allowance (£41!!!) over 4G is like half an hour of web surfing... what's the point of having super fast 4G if its so expensive to run! Show 'em off 3 :D
