The Times newspaper app

The official Times newspaper app for Windows Phone

Good news for our UK friends as the Times official newspaper app for Windows Phone has just gone live in the Marketplace. The app is well designed and brings the daily paper and even the Sunday Times right to your favorite Windows Phone all for free.

Well, it’s free if you have a subscription. That’s right, much like the New York Times app for Windows Phone, the Times of London will allow you to test drive their services for 30 days but afterwards you will need a subscription to continue the service.

WP Central

Features of the app include:

  • Top Stories
  • Features
  • Opinion
  • Video

The app is reportedly going to be updated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week meaning if you’re a news junkie (and tied to your phone) the official Times app could be a good choice for you.

In our brief moments with the app, it loaded fast and it has very clean, Metro design. Articles are easy to read and the images look fantastic. Our only complaint would be the lack of options, inability to share any articles (no social sharing), etc. But being a version 1.0 we’ll let that slide for an initial release.

Pick up the official Times newspaper and Sunday Times app here in the Windows Phone Marketplace. Thanks, Etnik, for the tip

Any live tile? Or is the 3rd party (and free) BBC News Mobile app still the best news app on the platform?

well designed

This app worked for me yesterday. Today I just get "internet connection failure". Tried on two different phones, with/without wifi and on different networks. Seems a problem connecting to the timesplus website as if I go there in IE on the phone I get a "HTTP 403 Forbidden" error. Anyone else have this issue?

Response to 'abrabr'.
I am experiencing the same problem. The Times probably can't live with itself giving away a whole trial month of free access to their content, so perhaps are attempting to present sign in issues to coerce those sampling the site to pay for it!

I have the same connection problem unfortunately. I have a subscription, but nothing happens when I enter the details.

works ok for me now.
