Speed through highways with Traffic Racer for Windows Phone 8

If you’ve got the need for speed, you’re going to like Traffic Racer. The endless racing game has been available for iOS and Android, but it’s now on Windows Phone 8 as well. Drive your car through highway traffic, earn cash, upgrade your car and buy new ones. It has great 3D graphics with smooth and realistic car handling.

Head past the break for our hands on video and walkthrough.

Here are some of the key features:

  • 19 different cars to choose from
  • 4 detailed environments: suburb, desert, snowy and city night
  • 4 game modes: Endless, Two-Way, Time Trial and Free Ride
  • Basic customization through paint and wheels
  • Over 15 different models for traffic

Traffic Racer screenshot

You start the Traffic Racer with only one car available. As you earn more points, you can unlock more cars, paint, wheels, and upgrades. You can increase speed, handling, and braking for each car. When you click the play button, there are four modes to choose from. We recommend starting out with the Endless One-way mode.

Traffic Racer

Touching the right side of the screen accelerates the car, while touching the left side slows it down. Tilt your phone to steer. You can change to touch steering and automatic acceleration in the settings.

Want to earn score and cash quickly? The faster you go, the more scores you get. When driving over 100 kmh, overtake cars closely to get bonus scores and cash. Driving in opposite direction in two-way mode also gives extra score and cash.

Overall, we think you’ll like Traffic Racer. The developer promises to update the game constantly, so we’ll be following it closely. The current version, 1.7.0.1, still has a couple of things missing, but they’re not deal breakers. It currently does not have leader boards and achievements.

Traffic Racer costs $0.99 at the Windows Phone Store and we have confirmed that it also works on devices with 512 MB memory. Unfortunately, there’s no free trial available yet. Check it out and let us know what you think in the comments!

Hey, this isn't a bad little game. Worked nicely on this Lumia...though I did have to buy it ..

Aashish13 says:

Is this like Dr driving on the droid?

jabtano says:

It does remained me of it some.

Aashish13 says:

Such games should be free then. This is not good

Same goes for you. Christ, if it's free, it's not 512mb compatible, if its available for 512mb devices, its not got XBL achievements. It's like one big moangasm in here sometimes.

^^^ This. Could not agree more. I'm sick of people complaining about being charged for less than a Pound (£) for an app or game for their phones. Do these same people expect to walk into a coffee shop and get free coffee? Of course not, but they expect all applications to be free.

DreadVenom says:

Could you hashtag this comment so we can use it to counter all the moaners :)

Yousef Kawmi says:

Well, if you were in my country (Syria) you won't be able to buy with Credit Cards (we have none)
Paypal ? you can't charge your Paypal account
and Syria is not the only Country which doesn't use credit cards
so making it free with ads, and in-app purchase is much better !

Man is the war there bad? Or is my country making it sound horrible.(USA)

Yousef Kawmi says:

Yes it's, but thanks god i'm not there anymore.

That's nice, wish you the best!

Yousef Kawmi says:

Thanks! I appreciate it. :)

Marco Gomes1 says:

Which real war wasn't or isn't bad??? Over 3 million people are surviving on refugee camps. It sure sounds bad.

920Walker says:

Your country's financial institution issues are not the developers problem.

Yousef Kawmi says:

as i said before, making it free with ads and in-app purchase will do the same purpose
and it will increase the downloads of the app
if all the people who bought it really like it, they will pay for the ads free version !
so it's win win for both sides.
and by the way, it doesn't really matter for us, because believe it or not
80-85% of the arab world use illegal (pirated) copy. so free app with ads is much better than pirated

PS: not only the arab world use pirated games :)

Microsoft Store takes Paypal. Has for a very long time.

Yousef Kawmi says:

i never said they don't, i said you can't charge you account (maybe my english didn't server the purpose) but i meant no credit cards? no paypal!

Marco Gomes1 says:

The problem is even with PayPal you still need a credit card number to validate the buy, at least in Portugal.

PayPal wallet integration doesn't work in the majority of the countries. Here in Brazil as an example.

R0bR says:

Is it difficult for developers to include trials? I understand a lot of these games are direct ports but how hard is it to add that in? Recently got burned on another highly recommended by WPCentral non trial game that I bought and played for a minute or two before deleting it.

iyae says:

No, its not hard to add trial functionality.

iririr says:

There are a ton of ads built into the andriod version...I'll be happy to pay a buck and not see annoying ads

Ultimateone says:

Lots of poor crybabies in this thread, Im not gonna pay a dollar for all of these apps coming to WP8... why should anyone port games with attitudes like yours

usman567 says:

Are you crying ?

Was so close to downloading until I saw there was no free trial. Do developers seriously expect an up-front, no-trial payment for a car-based endless runner when you can get a real racing game like Asphalt 8 for free? =/

Pass.

Asphalt 8 is free because it's backed by a major software developer who can afford to offer some of their games for free.
This game is by an indie dev who needs to make a living from his hard work.
I tell you what, why don't you give up weeks or months of your personal time to create an application or game for us, then let us know if you are comfortable and happy to give it away for free.

Who said anything about giving it away for free?

@Zeem Frostmaw,
You said it yourself. You complained about it being free for Android but not for WP. This implies that you object that the WP version is not being offered as a free download.

Um, no. =/ You're thinking of someone else.

Oxymoron428 says:

Believe it or not, yes. Android and IOS don't have a built in free trial system, so they usually have their free trials, if any at all, listed as separate apps with "free" or "lite" after the name. Still, I don't usually buy games without free trials either. I wanna know what I'm getting for my $$, ya know?

k0de says:

Nice game. I just got it. The $.99 cents price tag is a low price to pay.

Ogurrr says:

Looks like a AE 3D Moto!!! Try it, it's free :)

PPCFreak says:

That's what I thought. AE 3D Moto with vehicles instead of motorbikes

hphbp says:

I totally agree. This should be free like in android.

sholokov says:

I'd rather pay a dollar than watching ads in my games. Would still like it if there was a trial that expires or has limited functionality.

Yousef Kawmi says:

Because Ads/in-app purchase is so mainstream

Jaskys says:

No trial, no buy

korhoden says:

Vicks VapoRub?

Mark Guim says:

LOL yes. Good eye.

I'd wish that demoes were required for apps.

sdreamer says:

I think a good model is free with ads then charge to remove ads. If its good and people want to support the dev then they'll buy it.

interiorlulu says:

If an app has adds I disregard it unless there is an option to remove them.

anirban130 says:

Very nicely done... Liked it

Almost every game that has no trial was ported from another platform using some tool to do that and THAT tool doesn't supports trials. Try to understand before crying.

R0bR says:

Yes, obviously, the point is for the developer to add the trial component regardless, they are developers are they not? If they want to be totally lazy and just do a direct port then make it free with Ads with purchase to remove. And for those that say that it is just .99 cents it's not. Buy 100 apps without a trial to find they suck is $100 wasted.

gwh34t says:

When an app is submitted to the store, there is an option for allowing ad-supported trials. I see both sides to the argument, but as a consumer, I don't want to pay anything for a GAME until I've tried it. Games are very subjective. If you made a calculator, and in the reviews, multiple people agree it will tell me 1+1=2 <--- that's not subjective. If that's exactly what I'm looking for, I'll pay the $1.  Not paying even $1 for a game until I've tried it out.  Sorry...

FearL0rd says:

Remembers me the old enduro atari

textomatic says:

Man, that 1520 is bad ass!!!  I want one!  But I love my 1020.  Wish I could have both!

Bought this little game. Really like it. Totally worth the meager .99 charge.

King_joey_I says:

I also bought this game very fun with fluid graphics runs great on my 1520 worth the $1 in my opinion

Shad0wguy says:

Looks like fun.  Just wish there was a trial to see if I'd like it, but for .99 cents I might buy it anyway.

dkediger says:

Spent waaaay too much time last night playing.....so, umm, yeah - its a fun little game.  Ran fine on my L928.  Only nit would be brake pedal a little hard to reach while holding phone.  Just had to learn to drive better without it!
