Ubisoft CEO: We plan to stop making games for the Xbox 360 after 2015

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot may have signaled the beginning of the end of major game development for Microsoft's Xbox 360. In a new interview, he stated that due to the unexpected speed of hardware sales of the current generation consoles like the Xbox One, the publisher will likely shut down development of games for the Xbox 360 after 2015.

Ubisoft plans to release Assassin's Creed Unity for the Xbox One and other current generation platforms this fall and will also release a separate game, Assassin's Creed Rogue, for the Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3 this year as well. In a chat with Game Informer, Guillemot stated:

"What we see is that this year is still fine for the PS3 and 360, but next year because they are selling very quickly, we'll move to the new hardware. After 2015, it will be hard for us to create games for those systems."

While game publishers like Ubisoft may be slowly shutting down their Xbox 360 development plans, it's likely that Microsoft will continue to offer support for the console for several more years at least. What do you think of Guillemot's comments?

Ubisoft CEO: We plan to stop making games for the Xbox 360 after 2015

Not really all but some changes at least to the UI like every other year, we didn't receive an update Last year for UI tweaks and I doubt we'll receive one this year. Oh well.

it's normal that Microsoft focus on the new system... the 360 UI is already "finished" while the Xbox One have a lot of things that is "basic" or was promised and is not implemented yet... like for example.. the media player, dlna support that is promised for the next update...

I think not, xbox one gets great games, they just dont have as many choices as xbox 360 games. On xbox 360 it is usually one lame game plus an ok looking game with some exceptons, AKA Dishonored or Dark Souls.d to crimson dragon on xbox one.

I still on my PS3 and runs as new... I will not move to the new generation consoles until couple more years.

I still on my PS3 and Xbox 360 and runs as new...I have moved to the new generation consoles as I could not wait until couple more years.

Neither will I. Specially while the PS4 doesn't offer the same media streaming capabilities as the PS3.

While I am finally starting to enjoy the Xbox One, the 360 is the better console right now. It has more games, its cheaper, less buggy, the controller buttons are more intuitive (left and right arrows as opposed to 3 lines and 2 overlapping squares), has Media Center Extender capability, can listen to custom audio during a game (from local storage or server), Forza 4 > 5, and the games in general are less buggy. While the One is getting better, I'd still rate my overall experience as disappointing. Then again, I was expecting an experience greater than the 360 to begin with.

You can build / get a cheap HTPC for those needs, I'm using my laptop (as I've found that I'm not needing the portability currenlty). Also, get a Wii U. :)

While Wii U is a nice machine, it ain't gettin a lot of third party games atm, and it ain't gettin Master Chief Collection.

True, but a decent HTPC can play most anything the new consoles can. Even the Master Chief -collection might come to PC, and if it doesn't it will still be available once XBone (&PS4) get more interesting games, and the price of consoles drops. In the meanwhile, I'm enjoying Wii U more than any console before. Those satisfied with the current offerings of the XBone (&/PS4), should of course jump in. :)

"I'm enjoying Wii U more than any console before."

Wow, really? You realize you are in a very tiny minority, right?  The Wii U is a joke.  I'm glad you're liking it, though!

How is the Wii U in any way a joke? If you're only interested in gaming, the Wii U is the current Gen console to get. It has the best library of games right now. That may or may not change in the future. Of course if you're interested in multimedia features, the Xbone is the way to go.

Sure, you could go through the hassle of building or buying a cheap HTPC and setting it up, and then awkwardly switching inputs to and fro. Or, you could buy an Xbox One, get all that, and get access to Xbox One exclusive features, apps, and games that an HTPC doesn't have.

Ps3 support also ending. But the title sounds like Ubisoft is against Microsoft platform

Not that, it's just that WPCentral is a Microsoft-only site and thus is just reporting on the developments as if only the Microsoft gaming consoles exist (you see every update for the One covered but not those for the PS4).  We do the same thing over at TrueAchievements, only state "Xbox 360/One" in the article even if PS3/4 is involved since we don't cover PlayStation news (we let TrueTrophies do that, whom again cover it as if Xbox doesn't exist).

Hey PutName here, I've always enjoyed TA. Tried to submit a developer interview once but they wouldn't take it, which was weird.

I can't really speak for the news team and what they do and don't cover (I'm the Forum Manager as well as Moderation and Game Info team member).  I'm suprised they didn't pick that up but without knowing the details of the game and timing and the like I'm forced to assume their intentions were well-meaning, so sorry if you felt scoffed at all.

If you do enjoy us, we would always appreciate an article on this awesome site about our new Xbox One app when that launches in September!

Don't play game on console if you are hard to face the truth like this..
Just play PC game you'll get longer support than the console....

For real. I recently had the revelation that there's no real point in owning a gaming PC with bleeding edge tech when the windows OS doesn't push the hardware efficiently. I can thank Chris Roberts for that info.

Right, because 9 years of support on Xbox 360 is somehow less than the 4-5 years of support most PC gaming hardware lasts before it becomes obsolete and an upgrade is needed. Great comparison...

I think it is funny how you act like the ps4 is a bad word. Wouldn't it be easier to say ps4 instead of other current gen consoles. I mean, there is only one current gen console, excluding Wii u and pc.

Posted via the WPC App for Android!

I didn't get what you're feeling so it's just in your mind. Besides, in case you didn't realize, this is a WP Plus site so everything else outside its ambit is lump under the word "others". If you go to PS sites, XBox is a bad word so it's even worse..

I love how you just acknowledged that there are 3 other current-gen systems (Wii U, PC, and PS4) and then chastized the author for saying 'other current-gen consoles' when instead you wanted him to just ignore Wii U and PC and say PS4. Huh? Also, your Android phone sucks.

LOL at your PS3.1/PS4 being ignored on a Microsoft centered website which you are browsing on your laggy Android, and you dare to compete with PC on specs where even a small form factor PC build whips your PS4's sorry ass and you wont get Xbox One and Wii U exclusives too, so GTFO!!

Its not surprising. Microsoft is ending support in 2016 anyways. Kind of off topic, but I feel that's when sales for the one will pick up.

It's normal both ps3 and Xbox 360 are old enough. They've been in the market for around 10 years. It's time to use new hardware and take advantage of it! PC, XBOX One or PS4 whatever you like the most!

No surprise, really. XB360 has had a good run. I wonder just how high these new console numbers are. PS4 is at 10million now. Haven't read word on XBO.

Probably somewhere around 6 or 7 Million.  The thing many buyers of the "console war" forget is that the XBOne doesn't need to sell as many consoles as the PS4 (or vice versa) for it to be successful.

Hope they finally make a compilation for rabbids(like they did with wii) sure the 1st few games sucked but as they moved that franchise from party games it got better

Not surprising. They want to focus on the latest consoles and graphics for their games. The xbox360 had a good run, hopefully prices will drop even further on the ps4/xbox one similar to what they did on the ps3/360

Dunno about that.  The 360 and PS3 make up a huge portion of the market.  I doubt that either the PS4 or X1 will reach it for a few more years.  But who am I to say?  I still thinking putting female characters into a game is worth the effort.
