Updates to Yammer apps bring useful features to Windows and Windows Phone

Yammer

Yammer is one of the leading enterprise social networks, and was acquired by Microsoft in 2012. It has apps for all mobile platforms, and a while back introduced one for Windows 8 as well.

Today, both Windows Phone and Windows apps (along with Android and iOS apps) have got updates that add much requested feature to the apps, along with bug fixes and performance enhancements.

Yammer - Windows Phone

Yammer’s Windows Phone app has been progressively getting updates, and the latest one (v1.7.1.0) makes it even better. The app now allows access to one’s Inbox to view most relevant conversations and manage messages. The latest version introduces new notifications and live tile functionality for passive updates. While the ability to join or leave Groups was added in the last update, Group search has been added now, so you can now find Groups that may be of interest to you.

Yammer - Windows 8

On Windows 8, the app’s not too old, and was pretty basic as yet. The latest update allows one to access and participate in Group Feeds, in addition to your Home Feed. Like the Windows Phone update, this one too introduces new notifications and live tile functionality. Finally, the Snap functionality has also been added to allow the app to be snapped to the side of the screen while keeping a tab on the conversations.

You can download the Windows 8 app from the Windows Store and the app for Windows Phone 7.x and Windows Phone 8 devices from the Windows Phone Store. Which features do you think are still missing on the Yammer apps?

It looks like nobody cares about Yammer. No thumbs up in the Windows store either.

I'd love to use it, but my boss is all IBM products and they SUCK!

They need to make this a way to replace email something like messenger, I am still sending short messages via outlook.  It should just popup a chat window.

As an Office365 user, I'm always happy to see business focused updates like this. I hope to see additional improvements in the Office app and tighter integration with Office365; would love to see a dedicated Sharepoint and SkyDrive Pro app.
