U.S. T-Mobile HD2 to feature Swype

Filed under:

Looks like that T-Mobile HD2 (US version, slated for March 24th) just keeps getting better and better.

Not only does it come with a memory boost (or rather, has memory allocated differently) which seems to shape it up for a Seven upgrade in October (that's what we're hearing too), but it looks to also feature Swype.

To refresh, Swype is that new soft-keyboard that first appeared on the Verizon Omnia II. It was then quickly ripped and ported to other devices (to the chagrin of the developers), due to its overwhelming popularity. The company has also recently secured a nice source of funding, meaning we can expect more form them in the future.

Fast forward to today and we find the latest T-Mo HD2 ROM dump features a unique file:

PACKAGE_LEO_1_5_IME_Swype

And to the right you'll see a screenshot of that very file in action. We're also told that this new build is "...slightly more accurate and looks much more polished than the original". What can we say other than we approve of this addition greatly? Nice move HTC and T-Mobile!

[Thanks, Tek818, for the info and screenshot!]

No 6.5.3?

So far, no. Then again, a lot can change in 6 weeks, so I wouldn't rule it out either.

Any experienced WM user knows the answer to a question regarding WinMo is rarely "No." Of course you can get WM6.5.3 on your HD2. Just unlock it and flash a ROM. I've got 6.5.3 running on my TP2 right now.

Oh, and the ROM I have also has swype.

Wasn't the whole point of 6.5.3 to make WM compatible with capacitive touchsreens? So does this mean HTC has had to finagle WM onto the HD2?

HD2 has been on the market for a few months now...running WM6.5, it's not really an issue. Yes, HTC has done their own tricks to get multi-touch working/make it capacitive friendly.

But there is no pressing *need* to have 6.5.3 on the T-Mo HD2, though it would be nice.

March 24 is a long way away. The article you just read discusses the latest build of the T-Mo HD2. If you think this is the last build before it's being released, please think again. And you can always flash a ROM.

"(or rather, has memory allocated differently)"

what does he mean by that? did it get more memory or what?

International HD2s are taught to believe they were manufactured with only 448MB RAM whenin fact they have 576MB RAM.

latest winmo 7 rumor is that the new os may not support multi-tasking???

Nice job removing the phony, side by side videos trying to show how much faster Swype is to type on than the iPhone, Malatesta. Additional kudos for removing the comments pointing out how staged and fake it was, trying to make the iPhone look inferior. If you have to resort to these kind of tactics, the entire integrity of this website should be called into question.

How could you even see that SaggyBalls? Your phone doesn't have a browser that displays flash :)

Dear Village Idiot aka "SaggyBalls": what in the great FSM are you talking about?

We didn't remove any video nor any comments. All still right here, linked in the post: http://www.wmexperts.com/will-swype-sweep-you-your-feet

If you have a problem with TechCrunch's video then...you know...tell *them*. Perhaps they might actually care what our resident troll has to say because we sure as hell don't!

Now buzz, you're stinking up the joint.
