USA Today updated to v1.1, gets a live tile

USA Today has received an update to kick-start August into motion. The most notable feature added in this version is live tile support. You will now be able view latest headlines in a photo mash-up. The full list of changes/features added are as follows:

  • Live Tile - A photo mash-up based on our latest headlines
  • Latest news videos on a dedicated video panel
  • Sub-section headlines: hold down any of the section tiles to bring up a list of sub-sections to choose from, i.e. Sports > MLB headlines. Tile will default to that subsection.
  • Photo caption and credit for articles
  • Recall last league viewed in Scores
  • Major League Soccer scores added
  • Celsius toggle for weather temps
  • Support for international weather locations (limited maps)
  • Weather alerts on current conditions screen
  • Various bug fixes

Be sure to keep up-to-date with the latest news, sport headlines and weather forecasts. You can download USA Today (Zune link), for free, from the Marketplace.

Thanks goes out to David and everyone else who tipped us on this!

You will need to uninstall the USA today program and install it again.

Los says:

ok. I'll try that. Thanksupdate: It worked

had the same problem - pretty annoying way to deal with an update, but i love the app...

Jf.Vigor says:

When mango comes, this app's livetile should flip to the back to show the current weather (in the same style as weatherlive). That would make this app the best :)Update: Just to add something, this made me think of something. Having livetiles flip to the back can make some pretty impressive two-in-one apps!If this app did such a thing, I can get rid of my weatherlive and just use USAToday... taking up less space on my homescreen :D

My battery drained right down after I installed this app. Phone stayed warm too. I had no trouble with the first version. I rebooted and tried a battery reinstall. Over night a fully charged phone went dead again. I blame the live tile. I have switched off that feature to test. I hope I don't have to uninstall the app, as USA Today is a very slick app.

Enjoying the app again. Battery drain was due to e-mail accounts hanging during sync, not this app. USA Today has a slick design and vibrant colors.
