Voddler movie service now available for Nokia Lumia phones in select markets

WP Central

Nokia has finally released the much anticipated Voddler video-on-demand service (www.voddler.com) for their Lumia line of Windows Phones. The app was first revealed and demonstrated back on Mobile World Congress in February and will gives users in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Spain a method by which to stream some of the latest blockbuster hits to their mobile screens.

Unfortunately, those in the US and elsewhere can't quite use the service just yet due to licensing restrictions but at least for Europe, we can see the app being made available later in the year.

The app itself is nicely laid out having been co-developed with Nokia. It features the ability to stream movies and TV series directly for a fee or you can watch for free with ads--not too shabby. Perhaps most impressive though is the "Movie Night" feature where you can "set up film nights with your friends and synchronize your viewing, both online and offline."

Yeah, that's pretty cool.

You can pick up Voddler here in the Nokia Collection but only for select markets. via: Mi Movil Windows; Thanks, Alex.

Jesus Christ. Anything worth anything on a Windows Phone is for Nokia only. Which would be fine if you offered the better Nokia devices on all of the carriers! Every other article (not at WPCentrals fault) is about what you can't have because your carrier doesn't have Nokia.

Viipottaja says:

Go complain to your carrier then! :)

schlubadub says:

Have you heard of this amazing new technology called the Internet? It's pretty amazing and lets you buy goods from ANYWHERE in the world! I know it sounds hard to believe, but no longer are we at the mercy of local retailers and carriers - we can just bypass them and get goods imported from anywhere we like!

Cyruss1989 says:

You obviously don't live in the US.
The carriers use weird bands, so phones that work fine in most parts of the world either don't work at all or just with EDGE.

Im with TMobile. The only phone Nokia offers is their FisherPrice version. So shut it.

OMG55 says:

Correction, the only Nokia phone Tmobile chose to carry is the low end version so as not to impede its android sales

elisaur says:

Lol, Fisher price.

Miistercoool says:

Hilarious!!! :D

ejlee072006 says:

Fisher price phone that has all the exclusive apps that u r crying about

You just use Netflix and shut it

Geez man. HTC needs to step up and start offering us first geners some device specific apps. All they have are what came out when the is was launched and about 3-4 from the mango launch. Tmo needs to hurry up and get some version of the lumia 900 so I can upgrade. Nokia obviously is on top of things.

Apoc says:

Damn, not available in the US!

LightBulbIT says:

...and probably won't be either...

awaiK says:

My next Windows Phone will be a Nokia device, definitely.

Cyruss1989 says:

Not available in Germany, I knew it oO

Bruno H says:

This app + Nokia Tablet + HDMI out = sweeet

wpc49 says:

**grin** My next device is definitely Nokia :|

safeabz says:

I think its fair to say the potential in apps from developers lacks alot and os is behind schedule whatever is built in works great but 8/10 apps are no where near good as IOS

CommonBlob says:

While I kind of agree, you posted this in a wrong thread.  This app is clearly one that is pushing the quality of apps.  IOS also has about 75% crappy apps, as does Android

CaptDjob says:

Well, at least in symbian version the voddler didn't support hdmi out (or any tv-out) from mobile phone. From PC yes, but not from phone. Some copyright issue. So before that is fixed, this is no go.

JayJayTG says:

In the UK and it says its not compatible on my Lumia 800 :/

Hampus says:

It said in the article that the UK wasn't supported.

JayJayTG says:

Ah ok thanks. I missed that :P

eRWT says:

Works great on my Lumia 800, here in Sweden. As you log in for the first time, you get 3 months of voddler plus for free as well as 2 "Lumia tickets" which, I believe can be used as a free rental of one movie each.

wetworker says:

No luck for me. Toronto Canada. :(

bigmanStan says:

Daniel, I take it you didn't sign the NDA?

Naram says:

Why not korea

brorim says:

Works on lumia 800 in denmark :)

vizagdude says:

Not available for the US market. But I have Netflix :)

LightBulbIT says:

Yeah, the potential to circumvent the greed will mean either the U.S. won't get it or it will be severely neutered when it shows up

RaRa85 says:

Guys, just get either one of the HTC Titans or the HTC Radar and BOOM! you can have access to movies and TV shows through the HTC Watch app. No need to wait while Nokia loads up on exclusive apps that you have to either wait for in the US or may not even get at all if you don't have a Nokia phone. Plus you always have Netflix. I'm tired of seeing HERE'S ANOTHER GREAT NOKIA EXCLUSIVE APP YOU WON'T EVER GET TO USE.lol But at the same time I blame HTC and Samsung for sitting around watching Nokia do everything they can to give their customers a unique experience. Nokia's really just doing a great job in that respect.

ejlee072006 says:

Im saying it again.. If u want apps, updates go with LUMIA

TechAbstract says:

It's no brainer to go with Nokia. Fixes, apps, call quality, signal reception and build quality.
