WeChat for Windows Phone gets updated with more stickers and email linkage

WeChat

If you're not familiar with WeChat for Windows Phone, it's a popular communication and social networking app that is available for both Windows Phone 7 and 8 owners. The service itself is more popular in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Southeast Asia and India, boasting over 300 million users spread around the globe. Today, we're looking at version 5 hitting the store.

So what's new in the latest release for WeChat? You're now able to download numerous new animated stickers from the Sticker Shop, as well as saving favourite content clippings from chats or Moments. If you find yourself forgetting (or misplacing) credentials often, WeChat now allows you link your email account for more convenient login and password retrieval.

WeChat

You can download WeChat from the Windows Phone Store for free (QR code below). Thanks, afgzee, for the heads up!

Anant Anand says:

Don't trust these Chinese devs no ads free gives me a creepy feelin

Xellsama says:

You really shouldnt worry about this one =D

bkydcmpr says:

It's naive to trust them, unless you are sure not an interesting target for the chinese government (not related to things like military, high profile business, chinese NGOs... but you probably never know).

May be they collect data based on our interests and sell it to ad agencies

inseyven says:

Well... USA is already doing the same so... I really don't care now -.-

Xellsama says:

oh you mean like Google?

rogerhew says:

worst still, is the NSA = National Security Agencies?

Xellsama says:

It's also naive to think that anything you do related to internet is going to be completely "private", especially if you are in the US. Not stopping people from getting on the internet now is it?

Like, what are you afraid that this app will do to you? or more importantly, what are you going to do on a IM app that's going to be so potentially harmful? Are people worried about Whatsapp? Are people worried about BBM? In the end it's no different than any of these other popular chat apps. In fact, by this logic, people should never download apps done by people outside of their country, and especially not US apps since the country has one of the world's biggest spying system + potentially the world's best available technology to use in this field.

dkxs says:

Does whatsapp have ads? Does Skype have ads? Are they free to use too? You have no idea how financially strong the devs of wechat are. They are one of the biggest internet empires in China and they have more than 700 million users using their various products, that's twice the population of U.S.
