Which is better, carrots or the Lumia 925? Nokia and Three have an answer

Nokia and in this case UK carrier Three, have co-released a new ad for the Nokia Lumia 925. Falling under the “absurd” category, the Finnish smartphone maker asks Do Carrots help you see in the Dark? The ad then shows what looks to be a scientific test with subjects consuming vast quantities of carrots and then engaging in sports like hurdles and boxing, but completely without light.

The subjects of course fail miserably and since people falling down is allegedly funny, it is supposed to get a laugh.

The commercial ends with the line “For better low-light performance, try the Nokia Lumia 925” along with the Three’s branding.

While the commercial is mildly entertaining, it suffers from the same problem as the other recent Lumia 925 ad: they never actually show the device (let alone it doing anything). That seems a bit odd, since they could have easily have shown the phone twirling around or looking all pretty with its Live Tiles. Even more, they could have showed it taking photos in low light and the results.

It's not clear if this will air on TV or just be a web-only video, but for now you can watch it on YouTube (which we only use to watch Nokia ads, evidently).

We’ll leave it up to you folks though. Yay or nay?

"but for now you can watch it on YouTube (which we only use to watch Nokia ads, evidently)."   Good one! ;)

Selfie13 says:

I found that quite funny myself, because it is so true.

CarlosTSG says:

The Nokia ads normally get shown in UK cinemas quite often.

Mad Strings says:

How did you get YouTube to work? Google won't allow us to watch via the app. Lol.

TeaRunner says:

The other Youtube apps work fine.  It's just MS' Google wants to be pissy about.

AccentAE86 says:

I found it quite funny TBH...

Robborboy says:

Take your TBH home.

AccentAE86 says:

Wow, in a bad mood there?

stui83 says:

Some can't take a TLA, TBQH four letter containing acronyms (FLCA) may well be the new cool.... ;)

Eas195 says:

then try TBVH. That's another cool one.

winphoneng says:

who stole your dinner?

Miistercoool says:

Isn't that the only reason any WP user uses watch Nokia and Surface

Robborboy says:

I use YouTube to watch alot of stuff on my 928.

Mayur says:

Shame on you :)

euichii says:

I use it to watch anime's on my L720. You have any alternative app?

DaiaX says:

Crunchyroll, Crackcle and Viki. Last two is slow on update.

Eas195 says:

I use YT just for staying in my phone, and then I uninstall it.

sepatown says:

These kind of ads are used to grab the viewers attention and get them interested. They don't have to show the product (it defeats the purpose), just to pique your interest and get you to actually go out and discover what the product being advertised can do. I think it's a brilliant commercial.

Tragic says:

Wish I could watch though I am no longer using Youtube becaue of Goolge wanting to suck so hard and ruining youtube on WIndows Phone. I bet its a intresting commercial nonetheless.

NIST says:

Metrotube baby!

Tragic says:

Thats what I have, WP is my choice OS and I'm glad I pick such an amazing OS, but if it isnt going to be supported then why should I support youtube?

Xaphoon148 says:

They should put it on vimeo as well

NIST says:

Haahaa. That was funny.

bb_gonzo says:

The ad is really funny and original. Maybe there is some sense behind these ads not showing the device, or mentioning windows phone. They probably found that Windows Phone is something the average person doesn't respond the same way, we Windows Phone fans do. Like, a lot of games say they are not MMOs, even though they are, because the word invokes certain sterotypes in customer they don't want to be associated with. So by avoiding Windows Phone, people just get that there is a new Nokia out there wich is supposed to be good in low light situations and associate this with a funny ad. Might be a good idea.

Without seeing the ad I am always in favor for more advertisements for windows phone. Seems like a funny concept and good ad idea. Good to see carrier support.

Come to think of it that's the only reason I go to YouTube... For Nokia ads

Rico says:

This is obviously viral marketing for the hilarious @realcarrotfacts

cdbstl76 says:

That's hilarious! Well done!

wsanchez78 says:

Pretty good, though I agree with Daniel that showing the product at the end would have put the two (funny commercial and selling point) together. I think funny/silly but true commercials get people to think about alternative products. That plus some straight commercials that show tue features of a product at work, are winners imo.

wsanchez78 says:

Oh, and the surface vs iPad-type commercials, since most tech websites are biased that MS needs to swing hard for now.

majohnny says:

For me this one is perfect. And in my oppinion it supports the ad to not show the phone. It generates some kind of interest in viewers. Kinda like in those Modus (car) adverts. Don't know if you had them, but in Germany we had. (example :
Perfect, the (not existing) music, the style. Love it.

interopbyt says:

Off topic, but has anyone else noticed there's also a GTA video listed in the Videos page of the WPCentral app? Lol

wpguy says:

An ad for the 925?! Who knew! Hey, TMo, you paying attention?

MyNL822 says:

It is Verizon exclusive, but you can buy it unlocked and use on Tmo.

wpguy says:

Methinks you are confusing the 928, which is only available on Verizon, with the 925, which is available on multiple carriers around the world.

MyNL822 says:

Lol, how do you fail at running on treadmill. You don't need to see to get the right speed.

JoRdaNeK says:

It was probably google that turned off the lights, But luckily 925's can deal with it fukc you SCROOGLE!!

Maybe WPCentral can start using Vimeo?

im surprised aswell that they dont promote Vimeo since nokia did give away 3 month plus subcriptions with purchase of a nokia wp & it fits well with their promotion of their optics being used to create short films. but the fact that your limited to what you can do with a basic subsciption is a turn off probably to many then theres Dailymotion which unlike vimeo has a 360 app aswell as an wp app
