The Windows 8 Live Tile experiment in Norway

Live Tiles Experiment

An interesting video has been published on the Microsoft Norge YouTube channel, which takes place on October 26th in Oslo, Norway. The video shows a team setting up a stage for the popular Norwegian electro rock band Datarock. This platform for the band to perform on is hidden behind a false wall on a street. The band, along with volunteers, will then surprise the general public.

Members of public who pass by will notice music playing within the 'fake' building and see what appears to be a Live Tile on the ground. Should the person stand on the tile the false wall will fall down around them, revealing what's really behind.

The band will be pushed out, as well as a live crowd that magically appears around the unsuspecting victim. Check out the video below to see it all in action.

It's an interesting concept, one that works extremely well on the male wielding a hot dog (see above photo). Fooling members of the public into using Live Tiles that are present in both Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 is an effective marketing strategy.

Source: YouTube; thanks, Alex, for the heads up!

Love the creativity of this. Very clever. The stunned look on the guy with the hotdog is priceless!!

Espeland says:

This is wonderful! Still laughing!

aebcjl says:

I'm pretty sure those were actors.  Can you imagine what would happen if that wall fell on someone.? They had to have actors who knew it was coming so they wouldn't get scared and try to move out of the way and get crushed.

chriscookz says:

I agree that this has to be staged... that would be INCREDIBLY dangerous if it was a real person who didn't know the wall was going to fall around them standing there. Still a cool concept though.

JoeDizzle33 says:

That's freaking awesome!

aubreyq says:

Agree. Too dangerous for someone who's not in on it.

...but an awesome marketing video for sure!

the guy with the hot dog will be stunned for years to come now - he's still standing there holding the same hot dog ever since

Arkanaloth says:

wow... just... wow. LOL.

fdesa12 says:

Fake or not, that was hilariously awesome!

blinkk2 says:

if this was for real people would start running when the wall starts falling. and maybe get hit.
and this reminds me of the "drama button" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXvU_cIjkrg
which makes it less original for me.

They sound a lot like The Talking Heads. At least in this song.

ScarletStar says:

It's probably fake (would be too dangerous to have someone unknowing stepping down from the tile and getting squashed), but still really cool video. :D
