Windows Phone Game Review: Retro Div Div
The Windows Phone game Retro Div Div is an entertaining game for your Windows Phone that has a touch of Space Invaders and the retro green and black screen. Retro Div Div has you playing the role of Div Div who is battling invading aliens to save his family from being abducted.
You start each game with five lives and you must collect/protect ten babies. Controlling Div Div is simple, just slant your Windows Phone one way or the other to have him move left or right on the screen. Firing his weapon is done by tapping the screen and to get him to jump, just tap on Div Div.
You face an assortment of alien crafts from those that resemble Space Invaders to the classic space ship styles. Some swoop down to take you out, some drop missile at you. As you progress through the game, Div Div babies are dropped and you must collect them before the alien ships do. The longer you play (or should I say survive), the more challenging the game becomes.
Retro Div Div is a fairly fast paced game with weapons bonuses and extra lives dropping from destroyed ships that can help you along the way. If you want to boost the challenge, you can go into the game's options and bump the difficultly up from easy to hard.
Overall, Retro Div Div isn't a bad game for your Windows Phone. I like the retro graphics but the screen can come across a little on the dark side at times and reading the game's text can be a little difficult. Since the only movement is side to side and jumping, I like the use of tilt controls and tapping Div Div for the jumps. At first I was thinking a directional control would be better but the tilt works. Game play is challenging enough to keep you interested and while I don't see playing Retro Div Div for hours on end, it's not a bad time waster for short periods of time. I just wish the screen was a touch brighter and easier to read.
Retro Div Div is a free, ad supported game that you can find here at the Windows Phone Marketplace.
