Windows Phone Review: First Row
First Row is a Windows Phone app designed to help you find concerts, events and sporting events in your area. First Row also has the capability to purchase event tickets from your Windows Phone. Which can come in handy when you don't feel like waiting in line at the box office.
First Row is powered by SeatGeek and is a fairly comprehensive source for finding your concert and event listings.
First Row is laid out with pages covering the Popular Events, Upcoming Events, and an About/Information page on the app. At the bottom of the screen you'll find the keyword search button and settings button. First Row's settings allows you to enter your zip code, determine what type search radius you would like and turn on/off Location Services.
In pulling up a specific event, First Row spreads things out with an About Page that contains the where and when on the event, a Pricing page that will break down the various ticket options and a buy option, and a Venue Page with details about the event location.
Each event can be pinned to your Start Screen, shared via Twitter, Facebook or Windows Live or by SMS.
For the most part, First Row is a helpful app if you need to find a local event and it's nice that you can buy tickets from the app. I had a lot of trouble pulling up events by keyword search. In entering a date range, results popped up quick. In entering a keyword, say a neighboring city, yielded no results. It might be the case where nothing was scheduled in that particular city but I also had the same lack of results for New York, New York.
First Row shines as a location based event locator but needs a little work on the search engine. While there's work to be done, First Row is a nicely laid out app that is well worth try.
First Row is a free, ad-supported app that you can find here at the Windows Phone Store.
