Worms Battlegrounds now available for the Xbox One for $24.99

Worms Battlegrounds

Earlier this year we learned that Worms Battlegrounds would be coming to the Xbox One. The game is part of ID@Xbox, the program that helps independent developers bring their games to the Xbox One. Starting today right now, you can grab Worms Battlegrounds for just $24.99.

What's Worms Battlegrounds all about? Here's the game description:

"Worms Battlegrounds brings friends and families together in the noble pursuit of self‐improvement, world domination and exploding sheep. Worms Battlegrounds is the biggest and best Worms game to date – more worms, larger landscapes, more dynamic water, more weapons and more customization items than ever before. It features beautiful high definition 3D visuals (but still retains the classic 2D gameplay) with new lighting effects, new features to help users interact socially, exciting additions to improve the single player experience, and more of everything a Worms fan could want."

The game also features clan support, day to night lighting transitions, 65 weapons, various game modes and more. To learn more, check out our full review. And be sure to join the WPCentral clan if you get the game!

Worms Battlegrounds is available for the Xbox One and costs $24.98. Grab it in the Xbox One Games Store.

CJ Thunder says:

Woah. $25 is alot compared to their xbla offerings of yore.

YA BILLY says:

$25 is a joke. Indie games should be $10 or less.

Ekon says:

This isn't a indie game. Worms is a really good game and old franchise. I use to play it alot on Dreamcast. Its well worth 25 dollars.

Yes, it is considered an indie game.

kenzibit says:

Do all games (Retail, Arcade and idie) have a 1000G cap? Or they just like on Xbox 360...1000G retail, 400 arcade and 0G for indie????

1000 now for arcade and retail no idea about indie

coip says:

All Xbox One games are 1000GS.

kenzibit says:

Wow....guess I have to get my Xbox Ones games ready before my console arrives. It's totally worth it than to buy an arcade game on 360....for only 400G.

Dam want it for $80!

Tense says:

I'm not purchasing this game until they get their fucking act together and charge $115. I refuse to underpay!

ikr. These are shit deals nowadays. They really need to raise their game and get with the competition. $25 for a game?! Something around the lines of $200 would be way more reasonable.

Verkunder says:

Nice, clam support.

Clams rule, join my clam

Aardvarks will dominate clams. fite me irl bro

Faklur says:

I hope it come to wp also

JANGEL13 says:

I just might buy it on windows phone for $25! Just kidding. But this definitely needs to be on windows phone Fo Sho

mreaglejr says:

Yeah! Plus, I remember playing Worms on my Windows Mobile (Qtek 2020i).. Good times! :)

I played about 6-7 different worms games on my java s40 phone a few years back. Loved this series !

Sajal Garg says:

And i still play it on my java

NH3MAN says:

This looks like the Bomb! Looks like mindless mayhem (she might have mentioned that ;) I think I will have to give a go...

I have the past two games on the 360. Never really got into the 2nd one. I'll wait for a price drop.

Ultimateone says:

Man the One needs some good games, like now

YA BILLY says:

Really no reason to buy an Xbox one when every game also comes out on 360 still too.

btbam91 says:

I can't tell if you're serious or not.

x_rus_x says:

They definitely got waayy more good games than the PS4.

That's opinion. People who like ps4's more will say the exact opposite of what you said.

This is why I have both consoles. :)

coip says:

They will say say that but they'll be wrong: the Xbox One lineup of games is easily way better than the PS4 lineup right now. It's not even close.

No, that's still opinion. Many people got the PS4 because they felt it had better exclusives than the Xbox One.

majohnny says:

I don't get why they release those consoles without a bigger lineup either. Everything gets pumped out today just to be first (or not last).

douglasbaiao says:

Please, come to Windows 8.1!!! And Windows Phone 8.1!!! And make me pay just one time for both OS!!!

ah I LOVE this game! I remember playing this growing up on my 256mb computer.

hopmedic says:

Yeah, played Worms Armageddon on my PC as well, used to love it.

Nah, I'm good B! Especially for $25! If it was $5-$10 maybe!

isi mcf says:

People still play worms?

Sin Ogaris says:

Oooh, I'll buy this. I'm getting a XBO for 300 so this will be my first download purchase.

booog89 says:

Make it available for WP!!!

coip says:

For an extra two dollars you could buy Super Time Force ($15) and Peggle 2 ($12), both of which are effing awesome. I'd do that, if I hadn't already done it.

Paul Acevedo says:

Those are both great games, but so is Worms Battlegrounds. Of the three, Worms has a much bigger focus on multiplayer.

swizzlerz says:

To much for an old game.

Tjalsma says:

*shakes head at comments so far*

majohnny says:

Then contribute something...

He did, a shaking of the head.

TheRem says:

Windows Phone version please, so it'll be cheaper. :D

truthsforme says:

Hmm angry birds for $50 on Xbox one.. and now this.

LOL $25 for an indie game? Yeah right.

Paul Acevedo says:

You shouldn't say dumb things about indie games. That said, Worms has been sold at retail ever since its inception and this version is available at retail in Europe. It's indie in that Team 17 is a small company, but no less historied than many non-indie gaming series.

misfitpierce says:

Now bring out worms for windows phone and well be good

twofron says:

Worms is an excellent title, but its unfortunate that it's only available for Xbox one right now. The previous Worms game on PC was the same price.

Paul Acevedo says:

Worms Battlegrounds and Worms Clan Wars are pretty much the same. Team 17 just adds a few new features and changes the name when they port from one platform to another.

Marcosan#CB says:

So because it's a indie game we should set the price at $10....really? People need to stop being so cheap. This game has multiplayer and clan support.

Omg, I loved worms when I was a child. I miss the worms series a lot!

But right now, I'm playing watchdogs. :)

swizzlerz says:

I got the one on 360 and rarely played it. I don't think I want to but it again.

Jakeway says:

What has this got to do with phones?

lind5150 says:

Want it on WP!

$25 is fine for a good worms game. Loving it.

Xboxfank says:

Don't worry it will be free on gold eventually

I hope ID@XBOX games will be eventually included in the Games with Gold program.

coip says:

Is there some reason that you think they won't?

Indie games were never included with the 360. I know this program is a bit different from the implementation on 360, but only time will tell. They just mentioned that the program was extended to the Xbox One this month, so who knows what the future has in store.

Paul Acevedo says:

XBLA games are often part of the program on 360 - they're the closer equivalent of indie games on Xbox One.

Conor Brown says:

£19.99 on the UK store, does seem abit much. But in general the pricing for downloads needs to be sorted out anyway.

cybermoose89 says:

That's alot for a worms game unless its free for gold users

topleya says:

Such a shame, me and my XBL friends play Worms alot on 360 and were waiting for this release.

$25 is way to much for this game, $10 max

Coreldan says:

I'd be interested, but maybe for a third of that price.

Mooncow27 says:

Oh the Holy Hand Grenade. Worms is great. A bit pricey. But it will be the first game on my Xbox One.

Mooncow27 says:

I would not hold my breath for a WP8 release. Terraria is still MIA. On console but no mobile love even though it was announced.

Reminds me of "Snails" on my dad's old Palm Pilot

wormy6 says:

Snails was a rip off of worms.  Worms has been around at least since 1996 because I loved playing it when I was 9.  Its also where I got my online alias from actually ^_^

wormy6 says:

I couldn't help but pick this game up.  I've played about 3 of the worms games, the first one being the original worms game it was one of the first video games I ever played.  Around the same time Warcraft 2 came out and you could play it online through this grevously long process on "The Zone", a gaming division on MSN if I remember right, although MSN might have bought The Zone later.  Anyways, that is where I started using the nickname Wormy, which started from how you could name your worms in the game, I had this worm I loved named 'Worm Eater'.  Oh so fun.

So for funsies I picked the game up and tried to remember all my old favorite names for my Worms from 1996.

The games great...  Still has all the things in it that made the classic so enjoyable.

Paul Acevedo says:

I hope you'll join the WPCentral clan, man!
