Xbox Live - Spider Jack spins 25 new levels into its web

Spider Jack playroom

Exclusive Playroom screenshots!

Spider Jack enjoys the distinction of being the first Chillingo title on Windows Phone – followed several months later by Feed Me Oil. It was also the game that proved Electronic Arts had not dropped the platform after almost a year of silence. (Chillingo is a label owned by EA, best known for Cut the Rope, a game we still hope comes to Windows Phone someday.)

Way back in January, Spider Jack’s developers MaxNick informed us that more levels were on the way. Fast forward to May and those levels have finally become a reality with the version 1.2 update!

Spider Jack version 1.2 release notes:

  • New 'Play Room' with 25 levels
  • New Chewing Gum and Trampoline features

The Playroom joins Spider Jack’s previous level sets: Barn, Bathroom, and Laboratory, boosting the total number of levels from 75 to 100. To actually access the Playroom levels you’ll need at least 180 stars, which shouldn’t be too much trouble.

The new Trampoline works just as you’d expect, bouncing Jack in various directions, depending on the angle from which he hit it. Chewing Gum functions both as a blessing and a curse. It can swing Jack in the direction needed to proceed, but if players fail to swipe the gum in time, Jack gets permanently stuck and fails the level. On the whole I’d say the Playroom levels are harder and more frustrating thanks to the yucky ol' Chewing Gum, but more levels for free is never a bad thing. Plus this update will make the ‘Master Spider’ Achievement (Collect 255 stars) a bit easier than before since the new levels increase the overall number of stars available (assuming the new stars actually count).

MaxNick also promises another batch of levels in a future update, which should extend Spider Jack’s lifespan even further. We’ll have a full review coming soon, but for now I can certainly recommend it to fans of casual games and Achievement hunters alike.

Spider Jack costs $2.99 and there is a free trial. Grab it here on the Marketplace – just don’t get stuck in gum!

Beezie84 says:

Are there new achievements? completion on this game was easy enough.. Not gonna redownload unless its worth it achievement wise

Paul Acevedo says:

No, I wouldn't ever expect new Achievements with a free update. Paid updates will usually get them though.

Beezie84 says:

Feeling angry birds syndrome again.. maybe I'm one of the few who would rather pay a $1 for extra levels with achievements.

Unfortunately I didn't like the game much.

I'm not seeing the update.

reb31 says:

Me too - no update in UK marketplace, although I've completed it anyway so only of limited interest - still it was fairly well done and easy to complete...

MastrMeatWad says:

cool. I don't own the game, but may consider it since it is being supported

reb31 says:

Still no update yet - if there's no new achievements then the update is arguably pointless anyway...
