Xbox One SmartGlass updated with TV and app channel improvements

That Xbox One in your living room just got a big update last night. The June system update introduced things like external hard drive support to store games and apps, real names, Games with Gold hub and so much more. Microsoft also then announced that Twitter, Vine, HBO and 42 other apps would be coming to Xbox between now and holiday 2014. Not to be left alone, the Xbox One SmartGlass app for Windows Phone picked up a major update today. Details and changelog after the break.

Head into the Windows Phone Store and you’ll find version 1.0.4.0 of Xbox One SmartGlass (though the app will now display version 2.2.1405.30001 inside the settings). This update introduces a lot of features those on the Xbox One SmartGlass Beta have been enjoying. Here’s what’s new:

  • See all your TV and app channels in one place with the OneGuide
  • Control your cable or satellite box and TV with a new universal remote control
  • Compare achievements
  • Game clips watched on SmartGlass now count toward total views
  • Reorder your pins- Filter saved game clips
  • Get more types of notifications and manage them in Settings
  • A redesign to Home makes it more engaging
  • Navigate more easily with a new app menu
  • See new leaderboards on game and details pages
  • General stability and polish improvements
  • Bug fixes

This is a must-have app for anyone with an Xbox One and Windows Phone. This update makes big improvements for those that use their Xbox One to watch a lot of TV content from their cable or satellite box. Grab the update and let us know what you think!

Thanks for the tip everyone!

WelCOME!

Keep it Coming Microsoft. I know u got more to give.

This is primarily thee only reason why is buy an Xbox One, full compatibility with my entire One Experience from my Phone, Tablets, Laptop and 2 Desktops.

WinPhanKyle says:

Can't wait to get home and try this!

should we stop using the beta now?

I'm sticking with the beta to get new features and whatnot earlier.

SmoothDog says:

XB1 just keeps the love a comin'

Paulo1300 says:

I've been on this beta for awhile its really nice.. I also noticed that I can change my TV volume with smartglass now, which is awesome! Does anyone know of you can change tv volume with the actual Xbox controller? I haven't been able to figure it out but haven't looked into it much

DKXKnight says:

I know what you mean. I have to keep saying Xbox, volume up or down to get it to adjust the volume. It does it in increments of 3.

EugB says:

You can change the increments now in the Xbox One settings.

You could change the volume before, but its been improved and included with the remote.

coip says:

I've been bugging Phil Spencer and Major Nelson about that for some time now on Twitter, requested that the right stick should be used to adjust the TV volume when not playing a game. Go retweet me and let's make this happen!

Paulo1300 says:

Can you post a link to your tweet?

OneGuide on my phone has been amazing. We watch TV from our kitchen, but even with a huge TV, I can't see the programming. Now I can be even lazier.

So many features added to the Smartglass app I am geeking out. Swiping up from the bottom on the Windows app reveals new menus and shortcuts. The best feature is finally having the TV guide in Canada. On the Smartglass app on both tablet and phone if you swipe down the left side of the TV channels in the guide you can scroll faster to higher channel numbers instead of having to scroll one by one. So cool!!!

Just out of curiosity, whats the path of taps in the app to get to the TV remote funcion. I'm on work and want to see if it works here in Brazil when I get home (Brazil doesn't have TV channels in the One Guide, by the way, so maybe we're out of luck again...)
I really miss the "Xbox on" command... MS and it's stupid region-restricted languages...

Xbox 360 slowly dies, Microsoft should stop selling it if they aren't going to support it. I'm still pissed that they never got Skype on there. Glass app is useless, takes at least 40 seconds to connect and disconnects if you use another app or the screen goes off. Hire about an update to fix these things?

coip says:

It is pretty dumb that Skype isn't on Xbox 360.

jfreiman says:

Agreed. Either support the 360 or stop selling it.
The only thing keeping me from upgrading to the Xbox One is the lack of Media Center Extender.

Exhibit13 says:

Media Center is dead, it was a dead end product why continue to support it on the ONE?

jelani noel says:

360 has been showing signs of death for years. 1 exclusive a year doesnt exactly mean console support

apocacrux says:

Whoa, fast news day or what. Everytime I check my phone there's four new articles it seems.

Sam Sabri says:

Now you can't complain about slow news or stuff that isn't related to Windows Phone ;)

apocacrux says:

I was attempting to mock those people. I don't even write for your site and yet I find them annoying.

Shimoner01 says:

Is there an auto-sign-in feature with this update that any knows of (like without using Kinect)?

MrAdelphi02 says:

There is auto sign in now. On the Xbox Live, go to settings> preferences> auto sign in (near the bottom right)

val.m says:

Now if they only didn't restrict it to just a number of regions.

It's not officially available in my country so I got it from elsewhere, but I'm disappointed that I can't get the app on my phone.

K3NCentral says:

Yeah, they implemented my feature request to rearrange the pins like on WP or W8. :D

mehonja says:

Can someone tell me how to change SmartGlass language on Windows 8.1? For some reason it keeps installing in German language.

gerbir21 says:

Cool. Now if only they could only update the Xbox One so that it doesn't need to be powered on every time I want to watch TV by itself.

Nimdock says:

Haha, I was giving Major Nelson a hard time (well, as much attention as he would pay to me anyway) over Twitter about releasing iOS and Android apps first.

If I had known it was going to be this fast I would have just shut up. Way to look like an idiot.

jelani noel says:

It's true though. They support those guys before they own home turf. It's so backwards.

ymcpa says:

I'm curious about the universal remote feature. My argument is that a decent universal remote like the logitech harmony costs at least $100. If Microsoft could add those same features, you would have to be a fool not to pay the $100 extra for a kinect. It can already turn your components on and off and control your cable box. Add full control of your components to smart glass and I wouldn't need a universal remote ever again. I've gone through 2 harmony controllers because some buttons start to stick or the coating on the charging plate comes off and it won't charge anymore. I wouldn't need another universal remote ever again. I could use my WP or SP2 to control everything.

immyperez says:

Any news on Sky TV app? It's the only reason I keep my 360 about as I have a virgin box myself and use my mates Sky TV!!! Eventually I will do the pass thru and the xbox 'one' can finally earn it's name in my room, lol!!!

apocacrux says:

I thought the images was a Nokia X. Very similar layout.
