Xbox on Windows Phone - Babel Rising 3D angers god and lands in the Store for smiting

Babel

"Come, let us go down and get Achievements..."

There’s something odd about a game that relives the biblical story of the Tower of Babel, especially since you play the angry god who seeks vengeance by murdering human construction crews.

It doesn’t scream to us “family fun” and in fact, we think it would have been more interesting to be the builders of the tower despite God trying to slay you. Once you complete the tower, you and your army storm heaven and you fight god. Now that's a game...

...But we digress.

Yes, Babel Rising 3D has landed early in the Store for Xbox and it fetches for $2.99 with a free trial.

Babel Rising 3D

Babel where you can get your scatter on...

The description of the game is the best:

“Step into the sacred sandals of a great, almighty, and very angry deity. Hurl bolts of holy lightning, summon punishing earthquakes, and unleash vengeful floods upon the foolish and irreverent Humans  to prevent them from building the tower of Babel.”

Translation: Have a god complex? Then this game is for you. The first mission? It literally says “Kill 60 workers”, that's it. At least the missions are to the point.

The game itself is okay. The graphics, like most “3D” games are a bit rough and jaggy, something that will greatly improve with Windows Phone 8 games. We had some problems mastering “creating a rift” and it’s a bit like trying to squish little digital ants. It’s mildly fun but not exactly awe-inspiring either.

We’ll spend some more time with it but in the meantime, go download the 42MB game from the Store now and give it a spin. Sound off in comments if you think it’s a hit or miss.

Thanks, Mark T., for the link, Donna C. for the tip

Looks like a decent mobile game, I really hope with the addition of DirectX in WP8 we will see better 3D graphics to be on par and if not better than current iOS games.

Shouldn't they be trying to build the Bing Translator?

sholokov says:

Nah...I don't want to be god.

Ha ha!
Nice one. In the biblical account they speak the same language, and God confuses their speech to foil, rather than the more messy (exciting?) smiting in this. Babel is Hebrew for confusion I think.

schlubadub says:

Doesn't the god also smash their tower and scatter the people across the world too?

The scattering parts is open to interpretation in the original Hebrew. It could also read that they scattered themselves by grouping according to their new languages. The New Living Translation says "Come, let us go down and confuse the people with differnt languages...and in that way the Lord scattered them all over the world, and they stopped building the city." [Genesis 11:7-8] As for smashing the tower, the bible doesn't say it happened.

Too much price.

This plays much better on a tablet than on a phone. Maybe with the Titans and the Ativs it'll be better. But yeah, I enjoy playing it on mine.

Im going to pass till it drops to .99c.

I tried the game out on my fully functioning Samsung Focus.  However, in-game the screen doesn't scroll very well (feels like low framerates).  The game is also not detecing my fingers very accurately at all (sometimes the power that makes you draw a line will appear nowhere near where I touched the screen).
Because of the inaccurate touch detection I wouldn't buy it for my phone, it's pretty bad.

The graphics look decent though and I like the idea of the game.

I could draw a line like once out of 10 attempts. Was too frustrating and agree, won't be buying.

cheesemoo says:

I agree with both of you. I dont even know if I was able to get 1 out of 10 attempts...  This game had alot of potential and I was excited about it, too bad.  I am just glad I got the trial and not paid 3 bucks for this.  I would have been a bit upset.
Very surprised Ubisoft put this out there so unfinished.
Edit: The camera panning could use some work too.

Bit weird this launches at 2.99 (3.49 in aus) when Extraction is 0.99 across the board

ZX9 says:

I've been waiting for this game!

ZX9 says:

Unfortunately...it apparently sucks. Shoot.

Murgatroyd7 says:

I'll give the demo a shot, but I already have an almost identical game on WiiWare and this doesn't look as fun.
