Zune Marketplace coming to Canada Oct 3rd

Good news to our friends up north. On October 3rd, the Zune Marketplace is headed your way, hopefully completely unfiltered.

"We are excited to announce that Zune Music Marketplace and Zune Music Pass will roll out in Canada on October 3rd, providing access to a growing music catalog of more than 14 million tracks from all the major labels, as well as tens of thousands of indie labels. Zune Music Pass will also be available for C$9.99 per month or C$99.90 annually and can be used on Xbox 360, Windows Phone, Windows PC, Zune devices and Zune.net."

The deal sounds good to us, especially since up to this point people with Windows Phones up in Canada have not had the full experience. This looks to finally fix this and the pricing seems right about in line with other countries.

In addition, you'll be able to stream "tens of thousands" music videos to your Zune PC and later, the Xbox 360.

This is great news:) I've waited sooo long!!! Finally all the functions on my phone will work!

Recrem says:

as a canadian, this is great, had to buy an zune hd online, just to find half the features didn't work,

I'm really hoping this includes podcasts as well as music. That's my only real gripe. I also have an iPod, so I subscribe/download all my podcasts through iTunes, then Zune/WP7 picks them up because it's monitoring that folder. To be able to manage it through Zune would be awesome. Zune >>>>>>>>> iTunes!

wetworker says:

You don't get podcast? that's strange because I do.I use to get Music until the last version of zune marketplace came out. http://twitpic.com/2u8wgkI updated my Samsung Focus to Mango the other day but the podcast feature is missing even though I have it on the desktop software. strange.

apocacrux says:

Yes it includes Podcasts, that was something that always bother me, the inability to search for and add podcasts in the software.

Yamishi says:

About time! I've been so disappointed with iTunes, it'll be nice to have some solid competition. And I agree, Zune >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> iTunes :D

gfunk84 says:

Finally, though I was really hoping for the $14.99 "keep 10 tracks" plan to be available up north. I wonder if this means we'll also get background art on Windows Phone Music + Videos hub, tile and lock screen?

mythos13 says:

Shoot, you mean we're not getting an option to keep any tracks.

Yamishi says:

Only if you purchase them individually, it would seem...

Nataku4ca says:

o god, finally... we've been bickering about this for ages, now just waiting for all the other bing stuff to become available :)

Terrin says:

this is awesome I dont mind the only streaming part for 9.99 a month as I usally like to just stream music now just to get the wife to understand it so she wont complain about spenidng 10.00 on nothing

chucky78 says:

Wow I can't wait. Why did this take so long? I know it's the CRTC's fault but I'm glad it's coming

iTunes also took years to come to Canada. The challenge comes from the fact that in the U.S. the same company usually owns the music and the music's distribution rights. They will often sign distribution deals outside of Canada, though, so it takes tonnes of negotiation to get everyone to agree who gets how much.
